Zapper Memorial Tournament Round Two Starting June 25, 2010!
Zapper Memorial Tournament Round Two Starting June 25, 2010!
We don't have all the final scores in from Round One. Three games remain unfinished in Series A, and two in Series D. These should be over shortly, however, judging by the positions.
The brief news is Cnita has qualified for the Wild-card spot! Despite one game remaining, his current 6 points give him the best Tournament Performance Rating of the non-qualifiers, no matter how Mluka or Mgomdysey finish up.
Congrats to Cnita!
The pairings and performance ratings will be published over the weekend.
I PROMISE!

As promised, here we go with the Tournament Performance Ratings! For anyone that's interested, the calculations were performed on:
http://georgejohn.bcentralhost.com/tca/perfrate.html
(software is based on information contained in Approximating Formulas for the USCF Rating System.
See The USCF Rating System for more details.)
You can also see that I've used a helluva lot of abreviations with the players names! But I think we're a close knit enough group that everyone can figure out who's who! If not, let me know, and I'll clarify things. Hope that's okay with all!
You can also see that some players have a "*" besides their stats. That's because they have a game or two unfinished. For those, I made some educated guesses as to what the results of those games would be. In most cases, things won't be affected too much, and it won't make any difference for the second round. When all the results are final, I'll republish this along with the final scores. I figure that won't be more than another week or so.

Round One was a great one! A few series were fought right to the bitter end! I regret that we lost Abiodun, however. Perhaps that was the only disappointing thing about watching the round unfold. I'm more than confident that his replacement, Cnita, will come through with some great chess, though. Ramawolf may be in for a run for his money! And I can certainly attest to Josh's strength! Jonathon may be the lowest rated player to qualify, but he IS on a mission for Jeff, don't forget!
The sheer strength of the players in Round E should make things interesting, though. And David has no doubt some tough competition in the Open, also. The rest of the field (martijn, Jpost, and Nils also can give him some more, I'm sure!
(God, I better quit now! I'm starting to sound like a sportscaster!!!)
I think it's going to be as much fun to cover this round of the Zapper as it would have been to play in it! Well, maybe not, but close...
One last thing:
I was hoping that I could impose on Josh and Nils to post their respective Rounds on the 25th. Let me know if that's okay, guys?
Thanks to everyone for such a great time so far, and I hope we all have another enjoyable round here! I'll be looking forward to it!
In the meantime, I'll keep an eye on Round One, and will post the final results when they're in!
Good Luck to all in Round Two!!!

A quick reply to Nils and Joshua first:
Yes ro both questions! Double RR and 30d + 2d! Same as Round One.
I knew I forgot to fill in a couple of blanks up there!
Oh, and Brian, I really want you to prove yourself, chum! In the interest of
"equalization" ( Like the NHL!?) I reprogrammed Excel so that every Zapper tournament you'll be playing in a round with David, Ramawolf, and the other top players! That'll teach them a lesson for cheating!!!

Nothing to do with the Zapper here, just thought I'd update everyone on the happenings in good ol' Toronto today:
1) Deb's sister flies in from Ottawa to City Centre Airport, closer to downtown than Toronto International by far, and a flight she's made a million times! However, we have the stupid G20 here this weekend, and a bunch of paranoid nuts running the security. She gets a tube of toothpaste (Colgate of mass destruction?) confiscated by them!
2) A protest (against the G20) ties up downtown roads in the morning rush hour, while a multicar crash ties up a major expressway!
3) Also in the morning rush hour, a bomb scare closes a downtown subway line!
4) We start off the afternoon with an earthquake!
5) We decide to cap things off with tornadoes north of the city!
Is God mad at us?
