Just currious to see if there would be any interest in playing bughouse here, if it were implemented.

How would you pick teams? Would there be rules against super teams? (ie a team w/ an average rating of 2800) But I definitely like the idea!

time?

Post by gregorytopov » Mon Feb 23, 2004 4:01 pm

Time is a critical element of over-the-board bughouse. Sometimes players "sit" while in a lost position, or while waiting for particular pieces. How would you incorporate this into correspondence bughouse? One alternative (commonly used in correspondence bughouse) is to require that all players play moves in a particular sequence. This is an option, but it does change the flavour of the game from regular bughouse somewhat. But it does seem the most viable way of playing correspondence bughouse. What did you have in mind when implementing this?

Bughouse rules

Post by gregorytopov » Tue Feb 24, 2004 9:55 am

To the person who asked what bughouse is: here are some links to sites explaining the basic rules of bughouse:

http://www.bughouse.info
http://www.chessvariants.com/multiplaye ... andem.html
http://mujweb.atlas.cz/sport/holandany/ ... eRules.htm

The following site offers bughouse via email/correspondence, and may be helpful in determining rules for the correspondence version:

I think it's a good idea.. Been waiting for a reason to learn the game as well as these online people have... When I first saw bughouse they called in "siamese chess" and it was played for fun.. this was in 87-91.. I believed for a while that the internet has changed the nature of the game and I started not liking it.. this is a good opportinuty to actually relearn it and basic strategies that have evolved since I played it in highschool.

Variations

Post by ghorn » Wed Feb 25, 2004 7:44 pm

Are there other variations of chess they play online? I am talking about variations based on chess as we play here. Although I would not mind finding a go Shogi site or site were they play the Korean form of chess.
