New Chess Board Layout

Post by mgomdysey » Mon Sep 07, 2020 2:24 pm

Hi Greg;

My game board changed to the 'new' board layout. How do I change it back? I don't see a button at the bottom of my screen that will allow me to change the layout back. I also don't see a 'comments' field as with the previous board layout. Could you please help?

Thanks
Maksim

It's amazing how many people don't know about their profile page and how to edit....

The same thing happened to me; the Experimental board showed up unexpectedly.
I seem to recall a post about it some time back (?), but I never investigated.
I was thinking about commenting and saw this, so mr. gomdysey gave me a push..

Is this new board something in process?

My take on it:

I like it, it's attractive, and the colors as well.
I object to the highlighting of the square from which has moved the piece.
It's distracting and unnecessary.

The opponent's move does not show up in the move box. This is a problem, especially because
we don't have the game score. I don't always remember what my last move was.
The only thing that shows up in the move box is my move, after I make it.

I would definitely use this board if:
- The highlighted square goes
- All moves show up in the move box

As a suggestion, I would prefer the board in the center of the screen
and the full game score under it. I consider this important.
This means making the board a little smaller but I think that's OK.

And mr. gomdysey is right ~ the Comments box is missed by those who like to chat.

I take it that this Experimental board is a work in progress and maybe some glitches have not been ironed out.

Thanks Greg.

Not a problem.
$100 per hour.
A bargain at any price.
As Black, you will not be allowed to play anything but the Petroff.

Thanks for the feedback gcohen. It is still a work in progress. I'm not sure how people would be getting set to the new board. To set it back, go to the "My Profile" link on the home page and set the interface preference to anything but "Experimental".

Thanks George. That was a much better review of my issue =)

Greg thanks for explaining it to me. Hopefully when this happens again randomly down the road I will remember how to change it back!

As best as I can tell it's pretty random...perhaps if I log into my profile from another computer which has the experimental layout setup (in this case my dad's computer who uses the experimental layout) it will then become a default setting? :?

Thanks Maksim...

Go to Profile
Go to Edit
Go to Interface Preference
Choose, and Save
You can change it at any time
It's Default according to your last choice

It looks like the edit profile page defaults to "experimental" if you've never selected an interface preference before. So if you edit anything on your profile you end up with the new interface, so I'll need to fix that.

I have uploaded my latest changes to the new layout for those that want to try it out. Should be fully functional, but still needs to prettification. But should be considered an improvement over the default by a long shot.
