Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with another game from Round 2. This one was the heyuneverno of Team Keep Em Checkmated against sisterofmercy of The Beerdrinkers match.
It started out normal but turned to unusual after heyuneverno played 5 h4!? ... ... ...
Yet after move 10 0-0-0, I personally, liked heyuneverno's handling of the opening... but, so did sisterofmercy! The minor Piece assault started immediately! ... ... ... heyuneverno's King was driven into the middle of the Board, where is was duly assaulted as was the Queen - which was captured quickly ... ... ... Poetically it ended with heyuneverno's King in the Center of his terrirtory as well.

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with the 2nd Round Game between heyuneverno of Team Keep Em Checkmated and iamachessstudent of Caissa's Chosen Team ... ... ...
iamachessstudent decided to throw off heyuneverno with the selection of a Pirc Defense. I am thinking they burned the Opening Book by move 9 ... ... ... I could write a 500 word essay on how instructive the use of Minor Pieces was in this fine game, but I won't. I will suggest you play through this delightful Minor Piece Middle game.
http://www.net-chess.com/viewgame.cgi?p1=g1105087502
Well worth the time to observe the handling of the Black Pieces in this one. heyuneverno had to admire the way iamachessstudent just over-powered him in the Middle Game. A very good 'learning' game.

Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with more 2nd Round games ... ... ... iamachessstudent of Caissa's Chosen vs johnrbrown of Team Tyr. This was a rarely played Benko (Volga) Gambit - reason enough to play through this game!
... ... ... I was intrigued with the position after 18 Bf4. iamachessstudent has an advantage to be sure, but nothing to even think about ending the game with. ... ... ... Then look at the Final Position just 4 moves later!!! johnrbrown, had to admit that he didn't see that ending when he played 18...Kb7. He used a lot of time in this game trying to stay in the game with iamachessstudent, who is a very good player ... ... ... Besides it was between players from the TOP 2 TEAMS at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament in a pivotal game. With iamachessstudent's victory, once again Caissa's Chosen has taken the lead!

Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with the game between johnrbrown of Team Tyr and heyuneverno of Team Keep Em Checkmated. You don't see many Pawn Mates, put this game finished with johnrbrown pulling one on heyuneverno ... ... ...
You can always be guaranteed of fireworks when a King's Gambit is rolled out. heyuneverno accepted the Gambit and it was on ... ... ... by move 8 it was a 'The Last Mistake Loses' classic. If you were standing by the table and watching, you had to:
A.) Cover your ears so as not to hear all the cursing
B.) Watch out for insults being thrown everywhere
C.) Duck and cover to dodge pieces thrown in disgust
D.) Try not to say 'Oh, no', 'Oh sh*t', or 'You got to be kidding me' out loud too many times.
It was a very entertaining game to say the least! And with the result Team Tyr tied with Caissa's Chosen again atop the standings.

Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
A big difference is Round Two has been noticed! Round One was decided, as Eugene had predicted, on the bottom boards. Board Three, Four, and Five, in particular the latter two. Round Two will (obviously) be decided on the top boards, One and Two. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it comes down to the two highest rated players in this year's Zapper, Pcmvr and Energy.
Need I mention that I have plenty of faith in Nils?

Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with one of the last Round 2 games. It was johnrbrown of Team Tyr vs iamachessstudent, the Captain of Caissa's Chosen in a crucial Round 2 game for the lead in the standings.
... ... ... johnrbrown rolled out the popular Austrian Attack variation of this Pirc Defense. By move 10 they burned the Opening Books. A small error on move 16 cost johnrbrown a Pawn, but he got it right back ... ... ... I thought johnrbrown was doing fine (shows what I know), then out of mid-air as if by magic... iamachessstudent crushed him. I haven't exactly figured out how, but it was decisive! ... ... ... I can only imagine that johnrbrown doesn't know exactly what happened either. Rather a 'stunner' of an attack. I am actually speechless... well played.
... ... ... Caissa's Chosen has once again taken over the lead all alone. Looks to be a great finish!

Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with a final result from Round 2. Now there are only 3 games remaining in Round 2. This game completed the Board 2 Match!
... ... ... It pitted heyuneverno of Team Keep Em Checkmated vs johnrbrown of Team Tyr. It Opened as a Colle System and left the 'System' rather quickly for heyuneverno decided to make this game a Pawn March at the beginning ... ... ... johnrbrown was content to just keep developing his Pieces and wait for his chance ... ... ...
It came after all of 11 moves. heyuneverno, still content on Pawn Marching, either didn't notice the threatened Pawn Fork on 2 Pieces - or just didn't care. The punishment either way was exacted and after only a dozen moves johnrbrown found himself up a Piece and just coasted from there ... ... ...
Not much to add except it was a win for Team Tyr.

I have my 5,000 word essay which scored a 3.4 (and was burned during a ritual), I wrote for a Rogue Science 204 class in college, titled:islanderfan wrote:wow that was long and boring

Seems as though these 'lone' specimens sit alone (with all their friends) for they are not tolerated among the general population.

Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
...And, thanks to Nils on Board One, Team Tyr has the lead again!
Hmmm...Team Tyr has two games remaining, and Caissa's Choice only has One! Nils only needs a draw against Pcmvr or Angel, and Team Tyr will go into Round Three with the Lead, along with winning Round Two!
I KNEW I made the right choice in drafting Nils!!!

Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
Well, I think we can all agree on at least something:
We ALL miss Eugene's witty reports!
Grabmyack just ain't the same without them.....
To try and make up for them in just a little way, here's a bit of Zapper Trivia!
The 2010 Zapper Memorial Tournament had twenty-one players, from eight different countries.
The 2011 Zapper Madness Tournament has had, including replacement players, twenty=three players, from eight different countries also.
The players and countries are:
USA (15) - Abiodun, Cmulligan , Davidswhite, Eccperreault, Gmiller, Heyuneverno, Iamachessstudent, Islanderfan, Jsiebert, Jsnyder, Mgomdysey, Mluka, Nhathuy, redketchuplover, Sour.
CANADA (6) - Angelofthenight, Cliff, Johnb, Jpettit, Johnrbrown, Pumpkin.
GERMANY (3) - Gregorgysi, Pawnraider, Ramawolf.
BELGIUM (3) - Jvanmechelen, roadrunner Sisterofmercy.
NETHERLANDS (2) - Jpost, Martijn.
AUSTRALIA (1) - Pwillows.
BRAZIL (1) - Wilbeerthoven.
ENGLAND (1) - Kmcpherson.
FRANCE (1) - Mi.
HOLLAND (1) - Pcmvr.
NORWAY (1) - Energy.
ROMANIA (1) - Cnita.
Players in BLUE are from 2010.
Players in GREEN are from 2011.
Players in RED have played in both 2010 and 2011.
The players from both tournaments are now awarded the "Two-Zap" ( ) Medals, and I hope they'll all be back for the 2012 Zapper!

umm you forgot pete (pcmvr) and roadrunner (who's name I can't spell lol)
Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
Thanks for the proofreading, Brian!
I stand corrected. Roadrunner has been added to Belgium above, and you missed Pete (Pcmvr), who's listed under the American players above.

Pete's not american lol he is from Holland!
Re: 2011 Zapper Tournament Reports
Really? I didn't know that, Brian. Eugene had him listed from the States, and I've never played him, so I don't know much about him.
Thanks. I'll re-edit that. For the 2012, it would be nice to have everyone's nationality from the start, since I have a tiny tendency to mix things up sometimes.....

There's a lot of buzz about Round Three's outcome right now...Vegas odds have Team Tyr favoured 7-2 to hold first place and the Gold Medal! Rumours are floating around the planet even as we speak....
