Re: Rating ceiling and floor.
Once you have a reliable rating over 2300 it seems that you get a rating floor of 2100. Ramesis is one player that doesn’t have a rating floor at all for some unknown reason. However his rating performance graph is bang on target, despite several thousand time-outs.

Rating ceiling and floor.
This is the only site I know of that has both a rating ceiling and rating floor, probably to discourage rating manipulation through the use of multiple accounts, which are allowed. The problem is that ceiling and floors distort the ratings at both ends. Back in 2012 on chess.com the idea of a rating...

Inconsistent results can mean that there’s something wrong.. I’ve had opponents play at a 1000 elo strength and later on play at an 1800 level. Either they occasionally use an engine or more than one player uses the account. But then again the strength of my play varies quite a bit.

Re: MY ONE WISH
Congratulations on the laser treatment, ziggy. What I have sometimes done for analysis is copy the move list into a program such as Scid vs. PC so I can move the pieces around. I of course do not use any of the engine features. I’ll have to check SCID out. ATM it’s beyond me. On my iPad I often enl...

Just had my left eye laser treated and the result is amazing. The black pieces are no longer a hazy grey colour and the colours are much richer. Playing here is now be much more enjoyable. Really looking forward to the right eye being treated.

On the 7th March the top mover was Beammeupscotty with a monsterous 566 moves in the day. I reckon that's the most I have ever seen. My brain would go to jelly with half that number.

RATING PERFORMANCE GRAPH
Within the Rating Performance graph (accessed via Personal Profile/Rating History) is our rating averaged or is it our current rating? Just say member X has an average rating of 2800 but a current rating of 2300, which rating is used for the graph? I am guessing it is an average rating.

No doubt some players do use engine help but thankfully most players on this site use their own brains. On other sites I am not so sure.

You cannot take the rook with your king as you would be placing your king in check. The fact that the rook is pinned is of no consequence.

As far as I know they are allowed. Just about all of my games get out of theory by move 10 anyway.

Pairing error
In match m1411774396 there seems to be an error with the pairings as the players should have had an equal number of
black and white (because they have an equal number of games). Has anyone come across this anomaly before?

Re: a question of ethics (in correspondence games)
I've seen clone accounts play each other with a whole bunch of Fool's Mates for the purpose of giving the new account an accurate and established rating. You could use a few accounts to boost your rating up to 3000, but there would be no point in having an artificial rating. From what I've read on C...

But are they birds of a feather? I have yet to see a tournament designated "computers allowed" , but I have see tournaments with "humans only" or "no computers" in an effort to keep centaurs out.
Blunders are a part of the game. Chess is a very complicated game.

In order to improve your play and to have a deeper understanding of the game you analyse your games with a chess engine after the game is over. To do otherwise is just cheating, nothing more.

Re: Draw by repetition.
I did enter "draw" in the box and then pressed enter. The game then disappeared and retrieved it from All My Games where upon it displayed Draw Offered. Then I made my 3rd rpt move which I now realise was the big mistake. If I had left the game alone the draw would have been a draw...eventually.

Draw by repetition.
I've a game where the position was repeated 3 times. I typed draw in the box, but the system decided that I was offering a draw, so how do you claim a draw by repetition? My opponent has now varied so I should have sort advice before this, but for future reference, what do you do for a 3 rpt draw?

Re: computer use in chess
Sorry, i need to make a correction. Using computer assistance is NOT CHEATING here on Net-chess, as there is no rule against using such assistance, except for specific tournaments such as the Net-chess Open. Although I'm sure most of us expect our opponents to use their own brains.

Re: computer use in chess
Personally i don't believe cheating is a big problem, particularly with the lower ratings. I haven't found much cause for suspicion on net-chess but it may be different with the higher ratings. Chess.com has a cheat detection system and 5% of my opponents have been banned for cheating. Happily most ...

It is not a real problem as I can access my profile through "user info" and "start a game". Still it's a bit weird as when I click on my profile on the home page it gives 0 games etc and a provisional rating of 800.

I belong to chess.com and GameKnot, both of which have great unique features, however net-chess has become my favourite mainly because I like the way the tournaments are organised and they always start quick.
