Re: Rating matters here
Why would they give their money back. It would be more proper to fine them than give their EF back.
These were kids in a couple of scholastic events in the Fischer era. They weren't adults so it was kid stuff. While there are rules granting latitude for TD's regarding unsportsmanlik...

Re: Rating matters here
I'm sure there are many games where one should resign (when all kinds of ninja-tricks have failed). But one should keep in mind these perspectives before concluding about the opponents sportsmanship and respect for the opponent. No conclusions regarding sportsmanship nor disrespect was rendered reg...

Re: speedchess O.T.B
Is it true in speeedchess, less than 2min I believe, that you DON'T say check? If you take your opp. king the game is over regardless of time? Illegal moves stand unless claimed by the opponent before the responding move. It is not required to say "check" in any rule book for any time control. Perso...

My point Greg is not my fault if he or she runs out of time. It's part of the game. Would you say that a win in any soprt is better if it was 1-0 or 130-0??? Here's the scenario: It's your move. You will be mated next move regardless. You also have 89 days on your clock what do you? A: Show some cl...

resigning
I will resign when my position has deteriorated to an obvious loss. I'm not thinking draw or stalemate unless I'm in an end game where that can be calculated. I also don't "hope" that my opponent will make a mistake and hand the game back to me. I will also resign after I've blundered or overlooked ...

The game is rated for the looser, but not the winner. So tell me please, 9 moves into the game after a couple of weeks of play and calculation, I have gained the initiative and probably a winning advantage or due to a blunder have the game in hand. Then my opponent decides to spoil my win by simply...

IN addition no chess wesite allows players to abort 10 moves into the game. I know I've told you this more than once. Players who time out are always scored a loss, and it's rated as a loss, without regard to how many games are played. From the GMILLER'S FAQ's: "My opponent timed out, why didn't I ...

My time controls are 5+(1or2), 7+(1or2), and sometimes 10+(1or2). 7+2 is pretty much standard for the matches/tournaments I post. But if I join someone elses, I've no qualms about their time-controls. So essentially 20 moves into the game there is 47 days on the clock. In your case a non-response p...

Game/30 + Bonus, with the first 10 moves to be completed within 20 days. No added time. This gets past the 10 move rule quickly. After the first 10 moves are completed, Conditional Bonus time is added: 2 days IF a move is made within 1 day or 1 day is added IF a move is made within 2 days, take thr...

I vote for Conditional moves if they HIDDEN and once they are entered they may not be rescinded. This would be very easy to implement. The same GUI as we have now, but with a button named Conditional Move in addition to the Move button. Then input the variation by moving the pieces on the board that...

Time Control Propoasl
I would like to propose the following time control Game/30 + Bonus, with the first 10 moves to be completed within 20 days. No added time. This gets past the 10 move rule quickly. After the first 10 moves are completed, Conditional Bonus time is added: 2 days IF a move is made within 1 day or 1 day ...

I'd have to say that Mateau has some interesting ideas, and certainly one or two of them I'd like to see implemented myself! Having said that, I think if ALL of those suggestions were implemented, the whole time-control/challange screen would get far too wacky! And I don't see any reason why provis...

Adjournments and time controls to limit timeouts
Yahoo has it so that there are two timers, one for the game and one per move. Let's say the timer is 30 minutes + 10 seconds per move, with a maximum timer of 10 minutes per move. We could implement something similar, such as if you do not move in 10 days, you automatically forfeit regardless of ho...

My opponent timed out....? Question for GMILLER
From GMILLER's FAQ's "My opponent timed out, why didn't I receive credit for a win? Due to the number of people who start games, make a few moves, then never come back, games where fewer than 10 moves are made are not rated as wins for the winning player. The player who times out is always scored a ...

delayed play; timeouts and abandoned games.
Personally I am annoyed but not particulalry aggravated by game delay tactics. But I do consider them rude and unsportsmanlike conduct. When a rated game is started and abandoned then the ratings should reflect the outcome. Ratings seem to be the carrot. All correspondence rules state that as well a...

GRAHAMTRUE: master of game abandonment.
It seems that Grahamtrue wants to be #1 for moves played or games played or some other obscure and totally meanlingless statistic. He is #1 for "Top Move Player". He is over two weeks behind at move three in the 6 player match that I organised recently. Furthermore he has 264 games started and is tw...

Not my software, in case you thought so. Did that really require a response?? Does this?? You believe wrong. Read 9.2 here: http://www.fide.com/component/handbook/?id=124&view=article Of course. Accuracy matters. I'll leave most of your claims for Greg to deal with, but you seem to never have playe...

Re: Bug found: early draw based on 3-move-repetation!
I agree, it's a bug. The posistions after 34...h5, 37. Qc3 and 39. Kc1 are identical except for one thing; Who it is to move. In actual fact the real bug is that your software determined the outcome of a game. It is up to the player to claim the draw. Not my software, in case you thought so. Did th...

Re: Bug found: early draw based on 3-move-repetation!
In actual fact the real bug is that your software determined the outcome of a game. It is up to the player to claim the draw. Being a certified USCF director, I do know that. But it's a trade off I made with making the programming easier, and making administration easier. In reality, it's up to the...

If you don't want to play cheaters then play on Playchess.com. That is the site that chessbase maintains and they monitor game play for cheaters. Refusing to move in a clearly lost position.
My opponent in this game: g1104729058, is clearly in a lost position, and has only one move available to him. Yet he has not moved in over a week. Previous to last week he also did not move for over a week. It is unfortunate that he blundered early and lost any advantage but why take your displeasur...
