i'm so sorry greg for your loss. it is truly a blow to the people on this site as well. since i joined, jeff was a favorite on the forum and a warrior on the board(too tough for me and many others). i know he was as loved and respected in life as online. he will be missed...

mic's father didn't catch him, he was just there. i envy that man! i'd like to lay in a hammock, crack open a cold one and watch mic fall off the same branch all day long. that's living! by the way, thanks for making my 100 wins look like crap...

i often think the same as jpalasek. i know that "good luck" is intended as a friendly greeting but hey, we're not throwing dice here. i'm sure that chess sites are loaded with nerds like me who pick apart the most benign phrases imaginable. so in the interest of friendly interaction i propose that w...

The reason being that it breaks up into little beads well before it hits the ground. please note that the urine needs time to break into beads. please people, when urinating on your ...

i was thinking of those late nights when an existing net-chess game suddenly becomes a blitz game. for those playing mic less chat might actually be an advantage. i mean, how many typos can you take right?

quick slow-chess

how about a quick play mode for two players who are on at the same time and want to make several moves or finish a game all at once? this eliminates the back-breaking labor of going back and forth from the "my games" screen. i think it should include a real time chat function. keep up the good work ...

i don't mind so much. like you said, if they have an inflated rating i just get more points when i beat them! nobody's impressed anyway, so why bother? there is something a little warped about it though. i wonder what they go through in real life to inflate their self esteem...

you bring up an excellent point. in the interest of fairness, i propose that everyone submit a urine sample to gmiller. greg, can you post an address for that?   also, please disregard any failed drug tests you may dig up from my past. my urine was clean but i dropped hal...

i'm a bit confused. in another thread started by slowblunder, gmiller cited uscf rules stating that using computers for analysis is forbidden and that printed material is okay. which is it? i don't have a problem with it but i think the rules for this site should be clear. it's been pointed out that...

using a database is not using the computer for analysis. the player is doing the analysis using what is essentially printed material. the intent of those rules seems to be the prohibition of additional "brains", human or otherwise.

well, that worked itself out as politely as any line of postings i've ever seen. our esteemed gmiller is always the professional and wulebgr always sagely circumspect so congrats to them and everyone else involved for making the online dialog work as it should!

i don't claim to be a qualified teacher but when i've taught my little sister and younger cousins (6-10) i've had some success teaching endgames first. i'll start with something easy to win like 2 rook and king vs king. kids like to be able to beat you sometimes. then maybe queen and king vs. king e...

Apples and Oranges

i'm interested in hooking up with my local USCF club. if my net-chess rating is 1529, can i expect to be on par with club players with similar ratings or is it completely apples to oranges. i know the ratings vary some with different pools of players, but i'm curious as to how some other peoples var...
