We're at about the halfway point of Round One, I think and here's the latest:

SERIES A

Ramawolf leads with 4 points, Davidswhite and Cnita share second with 3 points each, and Islanderfan has 1 point for third. Mgomdysey and
kmcpherson are scoreless as yet.

SERIES B

Iamachessstudent
has the lead with 4.5 points, and Cliff is currently second with 1.5 points. Abiodun, Redkctchuplover, and Nhathuy are at zero points.

SERIES C

Jpettit has racked up 6 points for first place, and Energy and Jvanmechelen share second with 3 points each. Gmiller and Johnb are each at zero.

(And with his six straight wins here, Jpettit is the first player to clinch a playoff spot in Round Two!)

SERIES D

Jpost leads with 4 points, Martijn

Jeff was my friend. From the time we first me until the end, we always seemed to have a game going. Each and every game was a struggle, a struggle usually filled with banter and bad jokes. I can't count how many times we played until well past midnight, exchanging moves, usually thinking longer about the comment than the actual position. God, those were good times.

In the beginning, we were both only average players, maybe below average. I was the fierce, unorthodox Sicilian attacker, Jeff the calm positiona Caro-Kann player. But as time went on, things changed. We became better. Right before his passing, I briefly hit 2500 on this site, based on my positional play, while Jeff was hanging with the big boys, playing the chess of his life, relying on his new found attacking-spirit and Sicilian defence. When you hang around someone long enough, I guess it's only natural you start to emulate the other.

And now we're here, at the present, the Jeff "Zapper" Jones Memorial. We must have played close to 100 games against each other. We were friends, and his illness affected me almost as much as him. I would do anything for him or his memory, move mountains if that's what it takes. So the way I see it, I'm the favourite going in. This one's for you, old friend. And see? It took longer than you thought, but you finally converted me to the Caro-Kann.

A most enjoyable tournament, and I watch with eager eyes all the interesting games being played, the magical positions evolving, in tribute to a friend. May it continue ever on.

Probably not. I followed the game, but didn't really do any analysis. It was more the long fight, just the like the shortness of the other "Games of the Week", that was interesting, to me.

Id like to thnk JPettit for his really nice words and story about my Uncle Jeff...it really made me feel good to know he has such close freinds on this site! That was one of the main reasons I had to play here, my Uncle had told me so much about the people here, and he kept ALL of his games and analyzed every single one of them..win , lose, or draw. I helped him do lots of it and he always had a nice word or small story to tall about all of his regular, recurring opponent's on this site.
I also am a Siclian player, but as JPettit, after working with my Uncle on games, I troo started to use the Caro-Kann in some pretty big games...almost without realizing I only pushed my C pawn to ...c6 instead of my usual...c5!
Im enjoying this tournament and want to thank everybody that knew and liked playing agaisnt my uncle..I have met some of you and every one has been very nice and been very good opponents!
I look forward to playing others and hope that I get some close freinds of my own just as my uncle did, and Ill be able to make him proud of me:)

Thanks all of you!
