Timing out
Parducagluca's last moves in two games against him were made on September 19th. How much longer before he times out!
Re: Timing out
Your opponent has 17 and 19 days left. It can be annoying when opponents time out, but not much can be done about it. I had a case where my opponent blundered a rook so just he just timed out, which took over 60 days. I emailed Greg Miller but nothing was done.
Re: Timing out
Greg Miller is not interested--I know from experience.
But I can't say I blame him.
He can do nothing about the psycho-pathology of Chess-players.
Chess brings out petty neurotic behavior in some people.
It is clear that playing on this site are a number of people
who just cannot bring themselves to gracefully resign
in a sportsmanlike manner when dead lost.
I know; I've had the experience with two of them.
There are also rude or uncivilized people.
I was bothered at first, but I've come to terms with it.
The hell with them.
Don't let them upset your equanimity.

Re: Timing out
I don't mind if an opponent doesn't resign. After playing hundreds of games against dedicated chess computers that can't resign I quite enjoy trying to find the quickest way to checkmate.
As far as timing out goes, it is difficult to imagine a possible motive. Maybe they are just too lazy to type "resign" in the box . Thankfully it doesn't happen all that often.

Re: Timing out
I was unclear--by "can't bring themselves to resign"
I was referring only to those who time-out.
As for the time-outs, there is no doubt in my mind:
apart from some who may have personal situations
preventing them from continuing with the game,
I am convinced their problem is psychological--
they can't bear to lose.
And there are more of those on this site than you think.
' Too lazy to type in "resign" ' is not a credible explanation.

Re: Timing out
If they have a lot of time remaining, I do reduce the amount of time so they time out within a few days. It should be easy enough to just ignore the game for a short period of time, so not much to be done in this case.gcohen wrote:Greg Miller is not interested--I know from experience.

Re: Timing out
I understand all that has been said on this subject. Nonetheless, it is more than a bit irritating when opponents refuse to move or resign when in a lost position. Ramesis, who made his last move in an obviously lost position on November 26th, is a prime example. He continues to play in other games until he is lost, then he goes silent....disgusting behavior!
Re: Timing out
Ramesis seems to always make the game last as long as possible by making moves until faced with a mate in one, then he will time out. Also his play can be erratic, ranging from good solid moves to much weaker ones. Maybe there is more than one player having played Ramesis quite a few times I've become used to his qwerks.
Re: Timing out
Sometimes I resign when in a losing position, but sometimes I continue to play just to gain some experience. In a losing situation I try to force a draw. If that's unethical please explain why, and in the future I'll resign. I do not want to frustrate or annoy anybody. I just enjoy playing even if I can't win.

Re: Timing out
That situation is not an issue, it's only an issue when someone flatly abandons a game in progress because they're loosing.
