Is the move Rf1c1 a good move for white?

Well done angel. :D

if you are interrested, there is also a way to capture the queen or a rook, as a diversion for those thinking the hard way ;)

Anyone see how to capture a rook? I'm stumped.

Sorry Mike, I forgot I also added the white bishop on a4 at the latest moment, to show a somewhat "equal" game on the piece count.

thats correct Greg. A Fork with the Queen and King is killing white.
1.Rfc1 Nf4 2.Qf1

Though Rfc1 is still a loosing move, I found the position to nice to bypass.

Qd3 is also possible though probably even worse for White.

Not a bad move mluka.
Though, is it with the intention of playing Qxg6 or Qxc3?
1.Qd3 Nxc3

2.Qxc3 Nd5 3.Qb3 Nf4 4.Nh4
2.Qxg6 hxg6 3.exf6

<Inkt blotted>
if you want to give black a difficult time, you might keep his rooks at bay with:
1.Rfc1 Nxc3 2.Rxc3 Nd5 3.Qd3 Nxc3 4.Qxc3 ;)

</Inkt blotted>

That's pretty odd. I didn't get puzzle 32a. I knew the answer likley involved something along the f file, but couldn't find anything. That in itself isn't surprising, but I had an OTB game a few weeks ago where that exact tactic came into play and I saw it immediatley. Which is a bit contrary to my previous belief that I'd be more likley to solve a puzzle than spot it in a game because I know to look for something.

I believe the exact possition was something like this (I was white with white to play).

Thanks. :D

I had in mind Qxc3, with instead 4.g3 - White must play g3 anyway: 4.Nh4 Qg5 5.g3 (5.Ndf3 Qe7 threatens g5, practically forcing 6.g3), and now Bxd4 is not also threatened. White has at least some pressure and has a chance to perhaps add pressure along the half-open h-file if Nxh3+ is played.

If I may:
after 4.g3 (instead of Nh4) Nxh3+

5. Kh1 Qg4
5. Kh2 Ng5
5. Kg2 Nf4+ (6.Kg1 Ne2+ 6... Nxd4)(6.Kh- Qh6 and black can reduce pawn to not with f2 being weak)
