different puzzle 2 - to whom it may concern

Post by muabdib » Mon Apr 26, 2004 12:52 pm

White's last move was the transformation of a pawn. Black to move - Black never transformed a pawn.
1) Black to move and draws
2)What was the position before White's last move?
3)White takes back his last move and wins

Correct position

Post by muabdib » Mon Apr 26, 2004 12:58 pm

Sorry, I can't get the position on the board. Perhaps anybody else could do that?

The position:
White: Kg8 Qh8 Pawns on h7and h5
Black: Kh6 Bf6

If you paste a board, you might want to try out the preview first.
This way you can check and edit your posts prior to posting them.

the position might have been something like this (white to play), with the black bishop anywhere on the d8-h4 diagonal (except f6 of coarse).

you would get something like, 1.g7 Bf6 2.gxh8B Bxh8 3.Kxh8 followed by h7h8Q and win for white.

After 1.g7 Bf6 2.gxh8Q?? Be5!! the game will end in a draw.
