{The Cochrane Gambit -- This game contains some moves which shows the
strength
and timing of those moves. For black those are d6-d5 giving black the room
to
maneuver and g7-g6 blocking white. For white those moves are, preventing
blacks d6-d5 and the three-pawn center with thematic f2-f4-f5} 1. e4 e5 2.
Nf3 Nf6 3.
Nxe5 d6 4. Nxf7 Kxf7 5. d4 Bg4 {Bg4 isn't that sound a move for black after
d4.
Black is actualy hoping that white will play the reflexive f3, but white
only
moves his pawn he wants on f4, which can be done with one move, and white
blocks his entry towards the King-side via the white squares.} 6. f3 Be6 {
The natural square for the Black's white bishop. Black could have played
this move at
once, giving quite a different game.} 7. Bd3 Be7 (7... c6 $2 8. f4 $1 $14)
8.

to
do, is move his white bishop away so he can play d5!} 13... Bc4 {A simple
attac
k on white's Rook seems to give black the needed tempo to play d6-d5, but it
white now has an excellent move up his sleeve.} (13... Qb6+ 14. Kh1) 14. b3
$3
{An excellent move!! White tries force open the c4-g8 line for his Queen
with
mate results.} 14... Qb6+ (14... Be6 15. Qd3 Bf6 (15... Kf8) 16. Bg6+ Kg8

21. Bg5 g6 $3 {Both Qc7 and Qd8 looses the game.} 22. Bf6+ (22. Qxg6 Ne5
$15)
22... Bxf6 23. Qxf6+ Rg7 24. Rad1 Qc7 $1 {
And this is why g7-g6 works in *this* game.} 25. Qg5 (25. Rd3) 25... Qe7 $2

This is a very interesting opening and game.

In your analysis what is meant by the $numbers as in 7. Bd3 Be7 (7... c6 $2 8. f4 $1 $14) ??

Thanks

Thanks tellymetwise. Do these $ numbers translate into the corresponding comments in applications like Chessbase?

No, but put the following lines above the header and it does.

[Event "?"]
[Site "?"]
[Date "????.??.??"]
[Round "?"]

The order is important.
Just open a notepad to paste both pieces together and after that, copy and paste the it as one complete game. After that, chessbase will accept the tags and comments.

I'm playing a Cochrane Gambit match now :) , it's an interesting opening, but not one which I would play by choice usually.
