Here is a puzzle I invented myself, so don't laugh.
There are two parts:

1. (The easy bit) White has a mate in 7. Find it.
2. Unfortunately for White it is Black's move, so find the best defense for black.

Good Luck!

P.S. I put that emoticon in to create an optical illusion. I am sure most of you can see that it doesn't look as if the last rank has been cut off straight, but it has!

Edit: I noticed that black could avoid the mate in 5 but not in 7, so it has been changed.

Due to lack of answers in the previous problem, here is another, easier problem by me.

Black has just made a huge blunder by playing g5. How does White punish him? White to move.

:shock:WARNING! POSSIBLE SOLUTION BELOW!

I do believe the solution is...

1. g3 Qh3
2. Bg4!! Qxg4
3.Nf6+ Kg6 (or Kh8)
4. Nxg4

This wins the Queen for a bishop and diffuses any immediate mate threats from Black. Any comments?
