Actually, black Qxd4 would put in check, but wouldn't be decisive.

1. Nxc6 Qf7

This is the first move for white. Black Q can't take white Q because then Nxe7+ and Mate in 2.

Black Q must go to f7 to delay the mate.

2. Nxf7 Nf5

Of course NxQ. No question here. Then black must move N to f5 to avoid white Qg7 mate.

3. exf5 Kxf7

Of course pawn takes knight and the destruction continues. Then black K takes the knight to avoid the Qg7 mate.

4. Qg7 Ke8

Queen moves in for the kill and the only move for black is Ke8. That is blacks only move.

5. Qe7 mates the king.
