Weekly Puzzle solving

Post by keithstuart » Sun Nov 09, 2003 4:32 pm

Hi

From next week i will be posting a puzzle from one of my books (it has 250 odd in it) and i will be asking you to solve or answer the books questin on a position and i think most will require analysis too so get your thinking caps on folks

For obivous reason i will not be naming the book as it also contains the answers ;)

The way the book is set up you get points for each puzzle depending on your answer

Might of come across a slight hitch here

Namely Copyright law

If the example positions arose from gsmes but are in a book is it ok to use them??

Possitions on the board, and lists of moves cannont be copyrighted, any annotation is copyrighted unless specified otherwise.

I'd think the fact that the author of the book regurgetated the possitions kinda speaks for itself.

"Copyrighted unless specified otherwise"? Shouldn't it be the opposite? American laws? (Not that I know how norwegian copyright laws regulates these things)

Wouldn't that be nice! Actually, it's copyrighted for 60 years after the author dies, unless stated otherwise. So if the author dies, you can't even get permission to reprint the work unless you can track down a heir who probably doesn't even know they have the rights to the work.

So i can post the positions and then ask for peoples own views on the position??

Should be easy enough to handle

You'd think that in this case copyright laws where not an issue as it would be classed as teaching/learning

It's use is irrelevant, school books are copyrighted too. But it'll be fine if you post the possitions, but none of the text. But you can provide your own text.
