Puzzle: White Mates in 10?
Puzzle: White Mates in 10?
The fastest mate that I could find at this position was white mating in 10 with:
1. Qc6+, Kb8 2. Bf4+, Bd6 3. Bxd6+, Rxd6 4. Qxd6+, Kb7 5. Qc6+, Kb8 6. Rg1, Qxd2+ 7. Kxd2, Nxc4+ 8. Ke1, Nd6 9. Rg8+ Nc8 10. Rxc8++
Can it be done any quicker?
1. Qc6+, Kb8 2. Bf4+, Bd6 3. Bxd6+, Rxd6 4. Qxd6+, Kb7 5. Qc6+, Kb8 6. Rg1, Qxd2+ 7. Kxd2, Nxc4+ 8. Ke1, Nd6 9. Rg8+ Nc8 10. Rxc8++
Can it be done any quicker?

There's a mate in 7
There's a mate in 7, but it's not easy to find at all, as the first move is not forcing. Should I go ahead and post it here, or leave it for others to find (given that I used a computer)?
PS. The computer actually found the mate in 10 before the mate in 7 -- it's that obscure.

The first move is Rg1. From here it quickly gets complicated as black has many responses, most of which lead to shorter mates.
and so on, and that's just for 1...Bxd2+ (although I imagine the lines are similar without that.)
