Can somebody help me with this line with white :

1 d4 f5 2 c4 Nf6 3 g3 e6 4 Bg2 Be7 5 Nf3 O-O 6 O-O d5
7 Nc3 c6

I don't understand the plans for white. Recently I played a few games and lost like boy :? .

Thanks for your input!!

Hello! I recently played against this defensive system, (see "m1171956545, game1104833507, "ferdyrojo vs. jcruzarias") and I was about to lose but my opponent made a weak manouvre (starting from 20. ... Ne6) and I could get a win.

Re the line of play you post, a good continuation is 8.Bf4 dxc4 (best); 9.Ne5 Nd5; 10.Nxc4 (if 9. ... b5 then 10.Nxb5! Nd5 11.Nc3 White gets an edge) Nxf4; 11.gxf4 Nd7; 12.Qd3 Nb6; 13.NxNb6 Qxb6 (13.Ne5?! Nd5 Black gets a strong centralized Kn); 14.a3 Rf6; 15.e3 Rg6; 16.Qc2 (= White gets an even middle game).

The stonewall defense is a good defense against the White's fianchettoed King's Bishop opening, as you can see and explore.

I hope this comment may help you.

Regards,

Ferdy. :P
