Choosing Color to play

Post by bassaholic » Thu Jan 26, 2006 12:57 am

Hi,

I am a new member playing my first game. My question is this; how does one go about choosing what color he chooses to play when issuing a challenge.

I issued a challenge which was accepted but found out after the game had started that I was playing black; not what I wanted.

Thank you for your time.

not sure but if you post just 1 game the color is select at random, most challenges are for 2 games so you play 1 with white and 1 with black
:D

Hello and welcome to the site!
I expect that you will have a great time here.

To avoid being disappointed about which side the server randomly
assigns you to play, you should always issue your challenges for an
even number of games.
This way,if you select(as most of us do) that each match should consist
of two games, you and your opponent will each play one game as white
and one as black.

Hope this answers your question and best of luck!

Regards,
David

Color Selection

Post by bassaholic » Thu Jan 26, 2006 7:58 am

Hi again,

Let me first thank you for your quick reply.

That's all well and good but I haven't selected a defence to play yet for black.

If there is no way for color selection for playing only one game then I'll just have to bite the bullet.

All the other sites I've been to allow you to select your color before issuing a challenge. I'm sure your aware of that.

Thanks

As others have already stated, there isn't a way to do this. I actually specifically left this "feature" out for fear it would be abused. I still get an e-mail or two every month from someone who is surprised by the fact that their game started with several moves already made. Of course, the match they joined had the opening moves listed in red bold letters, which they either failed to see, or just didn't understand what they meant. I couldn't imagine how many people would be confused if I also added an "as white" to the text.

I believe less is more in this case.

Hi again,

I disagree with your position but I will abide by whatever rules are in place on your site.

Again thanks for your time.
