My apologies for asking a question that is obviously from someone unexperienced, but what exactly is the purpose of a rating floor? They seem to keep some player's ratings artificially high, and that seems kinda lame.

you do not know, but this is such a topic that recurs once about every other month...maybe someone can mail you and explain it all...uggh:)
This site is to play Chess and enjoy and as long as you are enjoying your play and am happy...you are going to be fine!! I play for me and rarely , if ever, check my opponent;s rating....welcome to the site!
