Stuck in 2000 - Rating prison.

Post by jsivage » Fri Oct 29, 2004 5:24 pm

Recently I added several games in play against higher rated players for the experience. I'm happy to say, I'm getting plenty of experience through being slaughtered.

Slaughtered at the rate of a 27-game loosing streak. When I started playing, my rating was just over 2000. When it dropped to 2000, it never fell down any farther. I can be at 2000 and loose to any level player and I remain at 2000. Is this a system glitch?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer.

Ask Greg to remove your rating floor. That is what is keeping your rating from changing except in a positive direction.

For the player hovering at his or her floor, the rating reflects past achievements.

For all of his or her opponents, it can serve to reduce the effects of sandbagging.

gmiller. Thanks. It helps me in strategy development.

chessonly. I did check the FAQ and didn't find it there. Must've overlooked it.

I'm just interested in keeping an accurate picture of my current rating. It better helps me gauge my progress, or degress, with opponents of different playing strengths. I need to figure out if I'm learning anything from both the masters and beginners. Measure of the masters, obviously, and to tell when I'm being over-confident and reckless against the beginner.
