Greetings,
I would like to identify a convenient way to create JPG files (I guess BMP's would be o.k.) with "screenshots" of chess positions.
Is there something better than screen-capture from windows and pasting into MS- Paint?!?
Thanks for any hints,
- Dan Lottis
producing a JPG "image" of a chess position
Many chess programs can create image files (.jpg, .gif, .bmp) of the current position, although I'm not certain I would call these "screenshots". The pictures created are the chess position only, not the game and frame (all the windows) that you see in a screenshot.
I use Chess Captor (http://www.chesscaptor.com), Chess Informant Expert (http://www.sahovski.com), and ChessBase (http://www.chessbase.com). The latter two allow me to choose board and piece colors, while Chess Captor's b/w images are friendlier toward those with dial-up connections.
You can see examples of CIE- and CB-created diagrams at my website (http://www.angelfire.com/poetry/wulebgr). The buff and green diagrams, and the page background were created with CIE. The "wood board" diagrams with CB.

A nice program I use is chesspad, which can be found here.
The program is as its name indicate, a notepad for chessgames, with a chessboard of coarse.
It doesn't create JPG images, but BMP.

Thats a useful little program Telly
Don't forget that even if it does only nake BMP pics folks you can easily convert to a jpg with many freeware programs and even the rubbish windows comes with if need be
i personally would recommend Irfanview for pic editing needs unless you have a digital camera where you will have a more than adequate software program already

Suggestions much appreciated!
Hey,
thanks for the suggestions! I actually *did* locate and employ the online tool supplied by our chessnet site and mentioned in a posting on the "chess puzzles" branch of this forum.
I'll check out the other tools, and am especially interested in "stand-alone" utilities that create the black-and-white images.
I agree these are not really "screenshots", and that BMP to JPG conversions are not really a problem.
Gratefully,
