Is Kasparov still the strongest Player in the World?

here is latest news published in chessbase...

There is a Team Chess Tournament in Crete
In the following table we give you the top ten performers after round five. We have only calculated the values for players who have played at least four games. Note that the performance does not depend on the absolute score but takes the strength of the opponents into consideration.

Player Fed. Rating Score Perf
Garry Kasparov RUS 2830 4.0/4 3447
Vasily Yemelin RUS 2550 4.0/4 3238
Alexander Morozevich RUS 2679 4.5/5 2932
Emil Sutovsky ISR 2639 3.5/4 2907
Valerij Filipov RUS 2630 4.5/5 2880
Joel Lautier FRA 2677 3.5/4 2859
Andrei Kharlov RUS 2591 4.5/5 2859
Peter Svidler RUS 2723 4.5/5 2831
Alon Greenfeld ISR 2556 4.5/5 2823
Vassily Ivanchuk UKR 2710 3.0/4 2823

The performance rating for Garry Kasparov is not a misprint. He beat Vladimir Chuchelov (2608), Baadur Jobava (2596), Konstantin Sakaev (2655) and Alexander Grischuk (2732).

the FIDE list is the most accurate chart of the best player in the world

and if i remember rightly changings in ratings occur after the players expected performance at the tournament is predicted ie Kasporav should win but probably not with a perfect 100% win record thus he'll gain a afew more points

"Best player in the world" from my point of view extends beyond just having the highest rating in the world. Kasparov is the most high profile player w/ the exception of perhaps fisher.

Im not saying hes the most legendary amongst chess circles but as far as the general public goes - his matches against big blue catapulted him into history.
