Net-Chess Tournament 2003 Progress so far

Post by keithstuart » Thu Oct 02, 2003 11:04 am

Hi all

As i have not alot on this weekend i'll go through all the matches and first of make a page so all the matches are linked too and if there are any obvious people going through to the next round i may highlight there names as i know of one person from my group definatly going through

Hopefully this should take some of the work from Greg giving him more time to do his own things and not have to worry too much about updating the stats etc

Right thats that sorted only 3 players who i can see are definatly through to the next round but there are several others who i would say should qualify too

There seem to be a bunch of matches due to time out soon so i will have another look in a week

the link to the page is http://www.keithstuart.co.uk/Chess/2003.html for now

I hope I get through, but with those two masters in my group I have little chance to succeed.

don't know Greg changed page on posting the list of players and groups

the winner of each group goes through and the additional players are being picked by performance ie score i think

Don't assume there are rules! In general, I hope only the highest scoring player will go to the next round, but do to time outs and people resigning all of their games, that's not always possible. So it's more of a judgment call on who stands a chance to win the whole thing vs. what's a good number of people to let move on.

Hey, I just realised you were refering to me. Nobody has used the word master in the same sentence as my name before (except my wife, but that's a different story altogether). I feel honoured, but if I'm a master ....., well, let's just say I'm not close to that yet.

However, mayor seems to firmly in control, and with Greg's last post in mind, I guess he will be the one to go on in our group.

I don't think so

Post by katchum » Thu Oct 09, 2003 6:17 am

If you beat those two games with beammeupscotty, you have a big chance to get through together with mayor.

Besides, you didn't have to draw, in that game with mayor.

No I didn't, but his play is very solid, and my confidence not that great. I thought that it would be a very long game with a 50/50 change, and when he offered the draw, I flipped a coin and accepted it.

I noticed that the rating floor only gets to 2300 if we lower that to 2000 I may be satisfied.

By the way, there is something wrong with the post a reply link, why do i always get back to the general page instead being directed immediately to the post a reply section?

if you want to see an unnecssesay draw: watch this:
http://www.net-chess.com/viewgame.cgi?p1=g1059940537

clear advantage black if I would not let the white king advance and play the attacking role...

if on 45th move on black, play pawn on f3 and not Qc8, black wins easy...black wins also with 45...Be3 or Rf8

you are in the same situation as me with 8 out of 10 but don't worry greg still has to find the additional players to go through to make up the places as unless my math is buggered the number of matches at th moment is not conducive with his aims of two further rounds of 6 or 7 player matches

Still around 25 or so matches with no clear victor but i am pretty certain of several match winners in amongst that lot

This mayor

Post by katchum » Wed Oct 22, 2003 12:47 pm

mayor, one of the opponents in my group, really has many tricks, as mroets told me.

Guess that I'm not capable and don't deserve to go to round two.

I have been Dancing alot of Salsa this last year instead of playing at our chess club :D

but still play here occasionaly, how about you?
I see your player page is empty , and you are not on mluka's pyramid chess ladder or on met-chess tourney?

alepheins said he doesn't have time to play in the second round. He tied for a win in match m1059940016, so only eraymond will move on from that match.

I won't decide until I actually determine who will be going to the next round, and I won't do that until all of the matches are decided (nor very nearly so).

did they capture anything of great significance?
You need a "pet" dragon . like in the movie "SHREK"!
Then you could say, "hold still everyone, ! I got a dragon, and I am not afraid to use it! "

OK, all kidding aside, sorry you goy burguled.. I looked at the remaining games and here is what I see..

Round 1
view:gphillips,spud,lau,pede,luxking,frozenfritz
view:gford,gmiller,checktwocheckmate,davidswhite,tstrickland,bgray
view:pblanctranchant,zetawomwom,cwhite,bmitrica,gregorgysi,gannett
view:oraugstad,cbum,dedektor,ribouj,vahidkamousi,masterubu

masterubu woll win, since ribouj will lose his last game

view:takpobome,femy,prellias,mashley,clochard,fhoffmeister
view:tapza,panyakkk,clemyp,knightmare,fingelaere,hricketts
Fimgerlaire will win one game for sure and is very strong in second also, I expect him to win both.. however even a draw will put him past knightmare...

view:corazonnegro,wlittle,smccormack,ctessman,angelofthenight,keithstuart
view:drako,stejam,wpetrushnko,andyprokofiev,ciortan,vsahs

very hard to say here, I would have favored andy pro, but he is in severe time-troub;e , in danger of forfeits, and vsahs is in position to tie for first... still hard to say...

view:cutey,arsigen,kmorgan,aaiken,tomy,monicker

if aaiken wins fis last 3 games he will also have 8.5 ., but I seriously doubt cutey will allow that... so I will go with tommy

I've added the scores to the tournament page Here. I'll have it run every few days. (The blank cells are just where a user scored 0 points).
