Net chess 2003 protest

Post by thaden » Thu May 06, 2004 4:39 pm

I would like to protest regarding the result in the net-chess 2003 round
2 Match: m1074042190.

I am sure that two of the 'players' (aaraymond and eraymond) in this match were in fact the same person. 4 reasons.

(1) Consider poor fingelaere

Here is his game (as white) against eraymond

1.e4 e5 2.Ng1f3 Nb8c6 3.Bf1c4 Bf8c5 4.c3 Ng8f6 5.d4 exd4 6.cxd4 Bc5b4 7.Nb1c3 Nf6xe4 8.0-0 Bb4xc3 9.d5 Nc6e5 10.bxc3 Ne5xc4 11.Qd1d4 0-0 white resigned.

Here is his game (as white) against aaraymond

1.e4 e5 2.Ng1f3 Nb8c6 3.Bf1c4 Bf8c5 4.c3 Ng8f6 5.d4 exd4 6.cxd4 Bc5b4 7.Nb1c3 Nf6xe4 8.0-0 Bb4xc3 9.d5 Nc6e5 10.bxc3 Ne5xc4 11.Qd1d4 white resigned.

Almost all other games in the match showed the same behaviour. Fingelaere resigned all of their games at this point, I wasn't surprised.

(2) The two 'players' move dynamics in their games were far more consistant with them being
the same person than an alternative that they are different people using the same computer.

(3) At the end of the round, the two 'players' contrived to tie at 10.5. I was watching their games
periodically and these were both fairly clear draws and heading this way, but unexpectedly (for them) eraymond had to find a way had to find a way to win his game as white with
aaraymond (after black's 51st move). Surprise surprise 4 moves later black resigned.

(4) Compare the only other aaraymond/eraymond match in archives.

I would like to see dragondude (as the strongest and best performing genuine player in the round) given a
special ticket into the next round, and the actions of aa + e raymond strongly watched if they play together in the next round.

If you check the results page, you'll see that's exactly what I did. I can't prevent people from cheating altogether, but I can at least request they put some effort into disguising it.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but I think it's one of these two:

1. Q. Why didn't I tell you not to cheat in the tournament?
A. That goes without saying.

2. Q. Why didn't I tell you you were cheating before the tournament started.
A. You already knew you were cheating.

you dont understand, if Im cheating with 2 users, why dont you tell me to stop playing with 2 users before the tournament started, I dont cheating, I play all my game with respect and fairplay, you know before the tournament started I have more than one user ! Why dont you sent me a message to play with only one ?

You didn't attract my attention until I saw you were going to engineer a tie with yourself to move to the final round.

If you're still insisting that you weren't cheating, you should really take after aaraymond, as she doesn't appear to be upset about this at all. Or you could just assume removal from the tourny your punishment for posting two messages with profanity.

No cheating....really?

Well, I never heard that one. Eric says: Of course I’m cheating but why didn’t you tell me I should not? Great Eric, So the final round could have been eraymond against aaraymond? And the winner is............Sorry, you don’t call it cheating?Hmmm.....Indeed I could have played with a second (third?) username, David perhaps too, and dragondude and rodschi and and ....Just to make sure that we will make it into the final round. Tu te fous de ma gueule?

(sort of off topic) but he shouldn't have resigned!

Perhaps not to the point, but interesting I think: Nunn's chess opeings gives this as unclear

Hi all,

see that:

Dragondude vs thaden g1074042254 looks the 29-th blow of the whites, the blacks win a detail with Bxh6 but not, Bh8?!?!? Bizarre, they play Bg6 and Bg7, as to begin again the position, and the whites resume the advantage with Qh3, why to play 33. A4 and 34. Qg7..... Needs to play 33. Qg7 without waiting, 34. Ref1 big white advantage..... C ended! Later 33. Qg7 the part is still playable for the blacks! Thaden vs dragondude g1074042255 34-th blow of the whites, better Nd4 than Rxh6.... But the 43-rd blow of the blacks, Kd7 is really bad, Ke7 is the best blow, maintaining the whites, please , win, explains the 45-th and the 46-th blow of the blacks, and paf!!!!!!! The whites abandon!!??!?!?!!? If c no put-up job of any details, it is what that then!

thx and eraymond it's a very cool and great player.

Well spotted: In the game where dragondude was white, he made a move which was clearly a typo, and would have ruined an interesting game. The following 2 moves were made to effectively go back to the original position.

In the other game, yes Ke7 would have been the best move with a
difficult win for black, and, yes, after Kd7 it is a easy win for white, but
I was pretty fed up with the tournament by that stage and resigned to
avoid losing on time.
