I don't get it, why did kasparov resign?

I've played through a few lines against Fritz and there doesn't appear to be any way to prevent white from promoting a pawn.

Instead of watching the game on ESPN2 like I did the first time, I monitored it on the X3D web site. As soon as the rook took the pawn, the commentators said the game was over. Then, when GK made a move, the commentary was that there was still some life in the position, then he resigned... 8)

All the variations I tried of the final position look like a loss to me, but I am no Kasparov (as anyone who has played me could tell you!)

I didn't find it nearly as exciting watching on the web site. On Sunday I will watch it on TV.

I watched the ESPN show, but they only covered the first two hours, so I missed all of the interesting stuff.

To toverturf. Did you listen to chess.FM while watching the game? On internet ches club, the chat was that they made the game more exciting than the commentators on ESPN.

In belgium we don't have chess channels on tv, is it a channel you have to pay much money for?

And Kasparov has a pawn too who could promote? So.
Well, Gmiller is right obviously.

bobbybellona: no, I wasn't in an evironment where that was possible. For Sunday I will have it on along with ESPN2.

Since GK desperately needs a win with white, I wonder what opening he'll choose? Whatever it is, I'll bet it stresses position (strategy) over tactics :)

Greg -

Could you create the 4 games as a net-chess match and post the match number/link to this forum so that we could use the forward and backward buttons to play through the game?
