I am sure if gmiller would look up, he would find I entered before the deadline and the mistake is his or his program.

Nope. As we all know, the international standard for something you're unfamiliar with not working is to blame the system you're just learning to use. Yes, you did try to join the tournament, but you weren't logged in and were redirected to the login page.

Well, here's an idea that might solve the problem, without blaming either yourself or Greg.

Throw out all the matches already played in the 2015 Open, add you in, and replay the whole thing from scratch!
As a matter of fact, throw out the 2014, 2013, 2012, etc. results as well, give you another chance to enter any you missed, and replay them all!

There now!

Everybody happy again?

Re: 2015 tournament

I suppose it's possible that Apache, the most widely used web server in history, has a bug that caused it to fail to log an entry when you clicked the join button again. And failed again to log an entry where you clicked the link to verify your entry, and also failed to log you trying again, and verifying again several times. Then I guess the e-mail to me or forum post noting the issue before the tournament started also got lost or deleted.

Ya know. A system that just redirects you to the logon page when your supposed to be logged in to do something really is bad design. That really is my bad. Making it work seamlessly after you log back on is quite a bit more work, and I took a shortcut. My bad. But you don't have to pretend that it's worse than it is. Am I going to change it? Probably not, lots of other systems work the same way for the same reason, and most people have figured that out by now. You're just going to have to work with me on stuff like that. Sorry you missed out on the tournament. Good luck next year.

Nope, you don't have to wait, I'm restarting the tournament just for you. It might take me a few months to get it started, and it might be called the 2016 tournament, but that's just due to my inept programming abilities.

I see gmiller has not stopped the tournament, but I knew that was a lie anyway. Even if he did, I am sure he would put me up against computer users so I get knocked out early. It is sad this all could have been avoided by him saying there must have been a screw up and say he was sorry, instead of the way he went about it and lying. I am sure I will be booted for using free speech, but says a lot about gmiller.

Hmmmm.... My first idea was simply to say "no comment."

However, I think you're having a problem differentiating between a lie and simple sarcasm, my friend. First off, did you really expect Greg just halt games half-played, when about 130 are involved just because one player somehow was omitted? Good Lord, man! Be reasonable!

Secondly, The pairings are random, and although I'm not fond of computer users, there's unfortunately really no way to tell who is and isn't using one. I dislike the practice too, but some people seem to enjoy dishonouring the game by using them, just for the sake of ratings.

Lastly, Greg and myself have had a few disagreements also, and I actually did receive a warning of sorts, when I got involved in a heated argument with an admitted computer user a while back. I don't think Greg has any problem with free speech.

Relax, enjoy some games, and chat with some opponents. You'll find the site has a lot to offer. Especially the fine group of players!

Let's not make this personal, dontcare.

Cliff Dwyer speaks for himself, not Greg.

I'm only trying to say "Get over it, man!"

That's my final comment on this thread, which is quickly becoming ridiculous!

My dear dontcare,

In The Netherlands we say to people like you: seek a life.
Greg is doing his utmost best for many years and makes it possible for you to play chess, free and with many kind people playing here.
Cliff is as always completely right. I guess there are many other sites to play chess, where players like you gather. Please go there.
And stop this very ridiculous complaining and in the meantime take the book "Sarcasm for dummies"

I definitely check the forum too seldom. I nearly missed this very funny thread.

My guess would be that dontcare is Greg's new account with which he tries to create some entertaining value in the forum. Well done! I can't wait to see carealot enter the discussion.

If I understand the question, which I seriously doubt, the only way would be to file a restraining order with whichever court has juristriction.

Also,'Don't Care' seems to have expected Greg to recognize his having joined the 2015 site tournament by pairing him up against some other player.I think that someone should have early on aborted this entire thread by disabusing him of his expectation.

My own time constraints have been so unforgiving that I,too, failed to pitch in when it might have helped.

The way I see it is that Mr whocares wanted is minute of attention... besides your rating doesn't show
that you could stand a chance past beyond first round..

If you want I would love to play a 12 match game against you... if you dare!!!

Oh come on itsmenow, 95% of the entrants know that they have little hope of qualifying for round 3. Just take a look at the rating of the guys who play in round 3, they're all bouncing off the the 3000 ceiling. For most it is an achievement to get to the second round.

Happy New Year to you too, David!

I just survived two months of an insane work load.... It feels strange to come out "on the other side" and actually be able to sleep when I want to.

I might even try a game of chess again!
