Personally, I would rather not use the ELO Rating System.

Instead, I seem to use more often a player's Win / Lose / Forfeited Games Data ; if that makes any sense .... :)

Actually, in most of my Live / over-the-board Tourneys, I prefer knowing which openings my opponents have been victorious in, versus those which seem to present any weaknesses, and then adjust my preparation accoedingly.
