2014 Tournament

Post by joelag » Tue Jun 24, 2014 7:21 am

I'm eager for the 2nd round to start so I'm checking the ongoing matches from time to time. It can't have escaped your attention that there's only one relevant match left: http://www.slowchess.com/viewgame.cgi?p1=g1105181555

After analysing this game for some seconds it's obvious that this is an easy win for black (chessleon). But a further view at an endgame database table reveals that it's still (at least) 20 moves till the mate.

So what has to be done with this game given that chessleon (unfortunately only 6 points with 1 game ongoing) has only 6 days left to make his (at least) 20 moves?

Not to speak of the matter of how sportsmanlike it is of suhaspachore (7.5 points with 1 game ongoing) not to resign (mind: He'll be in round 2 anyway - no matter how the game ends). In the end bonaparte (7.5 points with all games finished) has to hope that chessleon makes it in time.

Chessleon could make an insufficient loosing chances claim, but that'd still result in a draw. But Bonaparte pretty much threw the match with game g1105181564 (he had plenty of time), so not really much need to discuss it.

Yeah Greg. Of course you're right. The given game really seems to imply that Bonaparte doesn't want to play in round 2 anyway.

It's decided now. Greg, let's start round 2! I'm in dire need of some games.
