Draw by repetition.

Post by ziggyblitz » Thu Oct 17, 2013 3:59 am

I've a game where the position was repeated 3 times. I typed draw in the box, but the system decided that I was offering a draw, so how do you claim a draw by repetition? My opponent has now varied so I should have sort advice before this, but for future reference, what do you do for a 3 rpt draw?

Not sure if this helps but I think you have to enter DRAW in the box. I hope things workout properly.

I did enter "draw" in the box and then pressed enter. The game then disappeared and retrieved it from All My Games where upon it displayed Draw Offered. Then I made my 3rd rpt move which I now realise was the big mistake. If I had left the game alone the draw would have been a draw...eventually.

Indeed, the system finds a draw by repetition as quickly as a checkmate.
I wonder about the fifty moves without moving a pawn rule, since I have never been that far.

The three move rule is automatic. The mistake a lot of people make is thinking that because the board looks the same three times, that counts as a three move repetition, but it has to be the same state: same position, same player to move, same en-passent status.

Same castling status too...

Maybe this is worthy to be put in the FAQ?
