Anyone know the name of this opening?

1.e4 c5 2.Ng1f3 Nb8c6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nf3xd4 e5 5.Nd4b5 a6 6.Nb5d6 Bf8xd6 7.Qd1xd6 Qd8e7

Saw in a game with 2 GM's (in my opinion) on here. Won't say who unless they want me to. But I find it odd to bring the queen out to that far of the board. Anyone have an idea of why this is? I am sure David or Eugene or Josh will have some insight. But not that guy Cliff. He is a simple guy from Canada!8)

Rama.

Its commonly referred to as the KALSIHNIKOV Variation...
1.e4, c5; 2.Nf3, Nc6; 3.d4, cd4; 4.Nd4, e5!?

I have played it before as well and the variations are wide and varied, but black does not have to bring out the queen so early...
Its closely related to the SVENISHIKOV Variation also (1. e4, c5; 2.Nf3, Nc6; 3.d4, cd4, 4.Nd4, Nf6; 5. Nc3, e5

Hope this helped :)

Helped?! Oh, yeah, I am crystal clear now.
Everyone knows that if you 'Just want to whip it out!'
As White, you play 1.e4 e5 2.Qh5
As Black, you play 1.e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5
Anything else is just being polite.

Joshua,

You mean the KALASHNIKOV and the SVESHNIKOV,it's easy for us to slip up on these.
Anyway,Andreas was right in identifying Brian's game as the Lowenthal Variation, not the Kalashnikov.

The difference is that the Lowenthal is characterized by 5...a6 whereas the Kalashnikov substitutes 5...d6.

Bestest,
David
