Ooohh, Brian you missed an easy win!
You should have played:
1.a3, Pallen would have replied with 1... RESIGN! because of the forced Mate in 154!

Actually it was a pretty good game to play through. Very interesting and fun to try different lines.
A Draw is a good result for both players, although it is a non-winning one also...
Sort of like getting stuck dancing with your sister.
Challenge me for a brutal, no holds barred, knock-down, slobber-knocker of a Chess game!

It was a fun game Brian!
and as I have told you TAKE YOUR TIME..you will be amazed what happens of you spend even an extra minute or 2 on your moves... you see so much more and you can spot threats easier....

As for your game, David was right about 40. Qxd6!! is a sure winner !

On your 12th move Brian I think that 12. Re1!? is probably your best, your move is active but black gets an edge after that..


Black 13th move, instead of 13...Ne5?! should have been 13...Nd4! with the advantage.


And the last couple moves: Black;s 31st...c6?? should have lost to 32. Rxc6!! instead White played 32. Nb4?? and the game was Drawn a little later
But it was a fun game!

move 40 I was in check? Unless I know of another rule I have to move the king! Do you mean move 39?

umm no your 40th move u played 40. Re3 and you could have played 40. Qxd6 and on his move 40, black would not have a check , unlike in the game !
