I'm not sure if I have the terminology correct, but...
My stats:
596 games played
328 wins
237 loses
31 draws (draws are overrated)
My straight winning percentage would be my number of wins divided by my total games played. Thus 328/596= 0.55, so I straight out win 55% of my games.
However, chess also has draws. A draw is worth half a win scoring-wise. So 31/2= 15.5 extra points I have picked up, which would be equivalent to 15.5 extra wins. We now add that number to my wins and calculate again. So (328+15.5)/596 = 0.58. We could call this my points percentage, for I have picked up 58% of all possible points.
If I play around with your numbers, you have a winning percentage of 62% and a points percentage of 74%. Note that this is pretty crude, as it ignores rating differences (100 wins against my cat isn't special, but even one draw against Fischer would be huge), but take it for what it is worth.

20 Points per win vs a cat! (They are sneaky buggers)
6 Points per win vs a guinea pig (smelly rodents)
1 Points per win vs Islanderfan (why set the board up)

Your record is 454/95/189 (w/l/d) 738 total games
495/738= 67%
right?

Hmmmmm....I think I know this one!
Divide 100 by your total number of games, so in your case, Josh, we have:
100 / 739 = 0.1353179
Then multiply by your total wins (455) plus your total draws divided two (198 / 2 = 94.5), so 455 + 94.5 = 549.5
Multiply 0.1353179 by 549.5 and you have 74.357186
For a winning percentage of 74.4 per cent!
Or, to put it another way,
100/GP x (W + (D/2)) = WP
Any help?

However, it's even more important to take into account the average rating of your opposition along with your winning percentage, really.
For instance, I have a 88.01% with 780 games, 649 wins, 75 draws, and 56 losses.. But the average rating of my opposition is only 2140, and
my rating is only
2668! Josh has a 74.01% with a rating of
2877 against opponents with an average rating of 2434! So the winning percentages really tell little of the story,
without the opponent's average!
Bottom line:
Be Very Very Careful with statistics! Just remember they're what politicians use!

The simplest way is:
total points/total games
Factoring in the average rating of opponents is similar to how Elo ratings are computed, so it should be fairly decent. But note the average rating field here is just an integer, so after you've completed a certain number of games, your average will never change due to rounding off of decimals.
