This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with early second round results.
Next there was pawnraider of Keep Em Checkmated falling to cliff of Team Tyr ... ... ...
When I see a 14 move mate by Black it usually means a lack of development by White, and that's exactly what happened in this Colle System! When cliff played the innocent 8... e5, pawnraider seemed to forget all about developing and seemed to chase cliff's moves until his King was caught standing in the corner all alone.
With this win Team Tyr has gained the lead at the Zapper Memorial Tournament. However with many more Points available in this Round, there are still a lot of surprises yet to come.
Heck, even Caissa's Chosen might win a game...

Next there was islanderfan of Keep Em Checkmated falling to mi of The Beerdrinkers ... ... ...
Did I mention that Islanderfan gets confused by ANY Sicilian Defense! Mi knows this and used it against islanderfan ... ... ... However after 16 moves, islanderfan had a tremendous positional advantage plus a Pawn on mi. Finally after 51,000 moves of the tiniest order ... ... ... mi frustrated islanderfan into a fatal error at move 34. Mi won a Rook for his Knight and the rest was a nice 30 move endgame. Islanderfan resigns when the endgame was all but done:
... ... ... then he shakes mi's hand and they both rejoin The Beerdrinkers celebration ...
NOTE: Mi has won 4 games in a row to TIE Caissa's Chosen in the Zapper Memorial standings

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with the first results of the Board 1 Matches ... ... ... angelofthenight of Team Keep Em Checkmated and jvanmechelen of The Beerdrinkers have just completed a French Defense which was quickly disassembled by angelofthenight ... ... ...
angelofthenight made swift work of this game after jvanmechelen played the Novelty, 16... Nh5? and was quickly dispatched by angelofthenight ... ... ... I would think that that 'Novelty' was quickly erased from the notepad.
The result gave the Keep Em Checkmated Team a much needed boost after the ineffectual Chess playing of their Captain, islanderfan, who has resorted to 'Speed Chess' ... ... ... Let us hope he can hold the team together through this rough time or else it could find itself in a tough position due to the exciting format of Round 2.

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with the result of jsiebert of The Beerdrinkers Team flash ending over pwillows of Team Caissa's Chosen.
jsiebert (Judy) has continued tearing up the men on Board 5 here in the Second Round! pwillows (Pete) is feeling 'down under' after getting Checkmated by Judy in this unusual 3 Knights Opening.
Pete's King was overloaded with uninvited Royalty!
The Beerdrinkers are all alone in 3rd Place in the Zapper Memorial Tournament!

I am going to tip-toe through this side note...
Have you heard of Lovechess: Age of Egypt Chess Game for computers?
Everyone gasps...
Well my daughter, who is 16!? Told me of it. She also tells me that they were talking about it at school....
Back in my day... well, that was different, we didn't have any real technology - unless you count freezers you don't have to put real Blocks of Ice in any more as real technology. But we didn't discuss things like THAT when I was 16.
NOTE: Islanderfan, you may need to get an adult to look it up for you. And ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Am I posting any pictures.
It looks interesting, but how in the world can you concentrate on Chess while playing that game?

islanderfan's idea of 'LONG Division':
2 divided by 1
Hmmm, let's see now...
If I borrow... nope this isn't sub-braxon
What if I carry the 1?! NO! The Zero! No... that ain't it...
Ahh, my Calculator!
Let's see, On... 2... Divided By... 1...
"Time is up class! Put your pencils down and pass your test forward..."

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with more results from Round 2! You might say 'mi giveth, mi taketh away!' ... ... ... A pair of 'Reality Checks' administered to mi of The Beerdrinkers Team by cmulligan of Caissa's Chosen Team has restored The Beerdrinkers ... ... ... to the bottom of the Zapper Memorial Tournament standings.
The first game featured cmulligan as White playing a 'Polish' Opening against mi and the game
was a quiet 'Trading' game with cmulligan winning a couple of Pawns ... ... ... along the way which he converted to a simple endgame win.
The second game was much more of an attacking game by cmulligan. mi played a Larsen's Opening and found himself out the Opening Book ... ... ... by move 5! The first sense of trouble came when mi Castled to the Queenside with the b-File open on move 11 ... ... ... By move 16, cmulligan had a Kingside Attack rolling like Thunder, and there is no stopping that. mi tried to counter the Kingside Attack ... ... ... with a Kingside Attack of his own! Highly unusual, but it never took hold. With the last Central Pawn ... ... ... capture at move 26 by cmulligan, the result was visible and he finished mi off with mercy, announcing a Mate in 2 which brought on the polite Resignation by the always well-mannered mi.

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with 4 weekend games which were completed ... ... ... The first was from Board 1 which saw jvanmechelen of The Beerdrinkers draw with energy from Team Tyr.
The game was a quiet Larsen's Opening (getting more commonly played lately), where neither side could grab the initiative and was agreed to a quick Draw after 13 moves.

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with 4 weekend games which were completed ... ... ... The second also from Board 1, saw jvanmechelen of The Beerdrinkers lose to pcmvr of the awakened Caissa's Chosen Team! ... ... ...
jvanmechelen once again played a Larsen's Opening and this time it met with a well prepared pcmvr! By the 3rd move from pcmvr they had already outreached what I knew of the Larsen's. This quick Pawn Sacrifice by pcmvr had to be unexpected by jvanmechelen ... ... ... It lead to a huge development advantage for pcmvr and he used it relentlessly to squeeze the win from jvanmechelen.
... ... ... The ending was quick and deadly and the final position shows the development advantage that pcmvr enjoyed and utilized so ruthlessly.
I can sense Databases being updated everywhere after this game.

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with 4 weekend games which were completed ... ... ... The third which is from Board 5, saw jsiebert of The Beerdrinkers Checkmate the new replacement player, sour of Team Keep Em Checkmated.
jsiebert played a 4 Knights Game and after the early blunder of 8... d6, Judy grabbed sour's Knight and never looked back in thi upset of a player Elo 200 Points higher than she is ... ... ...
The position after Judy's 20th move shows just how dominate she was in this comfortable Opening she enjoys.
... ... ... I am thinking that islanderfan (Brian), the Captain of Team Keep Em Checkmated is feeling 'sour' after this result.

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with 4 weekend games which were completed ... ... ... The fourth which is also from Board 5, saw redketchuplover of Team Tyr Checkmate pwillows of Caissa's Chosen.
The game started as a nice calm English Opening, from which both players burned their Opening Books by move 5!
... ... ... At move 6, pwillows declared, 'Ready! Set! Go!' and they were off!!!
pwillows started unleashing a Black Attack along a front from the b-file all the way to the f-file! ... ... ... And redketchuplover countered all that with a more condensed Attack from the d-file to the f-file.
Cannon fire was heard for 3 Counties around until redketchuplover played the crushing 17 Nxb5! and pwillows missed the full extent of this violent explosion; ... ... ... when he captured the Knight, his Queen was be-headed by the Rook that was lying in wait and the Black resistance slowly crumbled leading to to the Death of the Monarch at move 30.
NOTE: The Zapper memorial standing have changed DRAMATICALLY!

Quiet?

I was very lucky! In the final position, my honorable opponent could have tried 14. Nc4! which seems to give him a big advantage. Since 14...Qxb3 loses piece after 15.Nfd2, I must play 14...Qc7. But after 15.Bh3! the situation becomes critical. If 15....h5 16.f5 Bh7 17.fxe6 fxe6 my position is as full of holes as swiss cheese, while after 15...Bh5 16.Nfd2 b5 17.Ne3 Nxe3 18.Qxe3 there's a threat of g4-f5 trapping the bishop. Even worse, it is almost impossible to get that blasted Bf8 developed so I can get castled. The beer-drinkers must have developed a potent mix! Where is the FIDE doping team when you need them?!/!?

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with more Second Round games ... ... ... The second game between redketchuplover of Team Tyr and pwillows of Caissa's Chosen, was a mud wrestling match from the start. The game started as another English Opening, but this time pwillows had White and on the second move he transposed it into an unusual Queen's Pawn game ... ... ... No Opening Books were needed in this fight! The miscalculation on move 13 by pwillows won a minor piece for redketchuplover, and from there on the Ketchup just spread over the board from which there was no escaping the ooze!
Pwillows gave up the battle in this position.

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with more Second Round games ... ... ... The little snot-nosed kid has scored! ... ... ... ecperreault of Caissa's Chosen has just defeated pawnraider of Keep Em Checkmated.
ecperreault played 1 e4, and pawnraider answered with 1... a6??? Now, most everyone knows that ecperreault is a World Class Player ... ... ... with these Rook Pawn advances of a single square early in games. I suppose pawnraider played this expecting ecperreault would be shocked by the move ... ... ... NO! He calmly replied 2.a3!! for a superior positional advantage!
I shall politely say this game was 'messy' at best. It only lasted 22 moves, but you would get out of breath watching just watching it ... ... ...
The final move, 22 Qxb5 Check!
Was accompanied by ecperreault writing in the 'chat box', "Ouch!!!".
... ... ... Yes, the game was painful.

ecperreault became the 'Pawn Raider' in this game and it was concluded with a Knight Fork at move 24.

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with more Second Round games ... ... ... Sour of Team Keep Em Checkmated has just defeated jsiebert of The Beerdrinkers for a split of their match.
The game started with a 4 Knights Opening ... ... ... but jsiebert miscalculated in the opening and paid dearly. By move 9 she had lost both central Pawns and a Knight! By move 12 her King's Position was shattered and stuck in the middle of the board ... ... ... the rout was on!
Judy did manage to win a minor Piece, but it was hardly enough. The ending was the closing of the mating Net.
Sour had tremendous pressure on his shoulders after dropping the first game in this match ... ... ... His Captain 'islanderfan' has short patience with new players. As he is fond of saying, 'Win or get out of here!' With support like that you know they are lining up to play for that Captain.

This your UNBIASED Reporter here at the 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament with more Second Round games ... ... ... iamachessstudent of Team Caissa's Chosen has just defeated sisterofmercy of The Beerdrinkers Team ... ... ...
This result vaults Caissa's Chosen back to where it RIGHTFULLY belongs as the LEADER of 2011 Zapper Memorial Tournament
iamachessstudent used the rarely played 1 f4! and sisterofmercy made it a Dutch Defense. However, iamachessstudent wanted nothing to do with any prepared opening stuff so 2 Qd3?! took care of any of that ... ... ... You knew it was not going to be an ordinary boring 75 move game with a long endgame. And they didn't disappoint!
... ... ... A lot happened in those 19 moves! Double Queenside Castling, A Knight & Bishop for a Rook Sacrifice, etc. A game worth playing over.
