Downloading PGN - date question

Post by rprado » Fri May 01, 2009 5:08 am

Hi - I've recently started using SCID http://scid.sourceforge.net/ to analyze my lost games. I've downloaded all games into one pgn file successfully, but have noticed the 'Date' in the header is the date I downloaded, not a date which relates to the game/match. Based on the assumption that my play is improving  I would like to look be able to review my games over time for any lessons learnt etc - but I don't fancy manually updated the records. Since I'm not too familar with either SCID or pgn file management does anyone more experienced have any good suggestions here?

I suppose you downloaded the file from here:

http://www.net-chess.com/download.php

The dates in the headers are wrong, as you have found. It's most likely a bug that Greg will fix. In the mean time, try a search here instead:

http://www.net-chess.com/aarchive.html

Then save the resulting page as a text file with the a name like "mygames.pgn". That should give you the correct dates.

Hi Greg - it's been a while until I got around to following up. Have just downloaded all my completed games in PGN format and all the dates of the games display correctly. So far so good, but when I import into Chessmaster all the dates display as 2009.04.25 which I find really odd, given the source data is correct. If anyone can shed light on what is going on here and how to fix it I'd be thankful as this problem has me stumped!
