Re: 2012 Net-Chess Tournament Round 2

When I say Apollom didn't play to his full potential, I am referring to the fact that he didn't request the extra 15 days, and he didn't request a draw based on insufficient loosing chances. The position on the board in game g1105099637 is a mate in 5, so I think the actual moves he made were winnin...

There are certainly legitimate points open for discussion, and I encourage people who want to discuss them to do so. We just need people to stop making noise by emotionally ridiculing the decision I made rather than making valid discussion points.

Greg if I may add a question and statement. Speed is of no consequence, as I pointed out above, appolom had two options to either win or draw against you and he chose to do neither. A truly competitive player would have done one or the other.

The problem I see with idea #1 is that everyone would likely use that feature, and someone with 5% timeouts who really wants to vindicate themselves will not be able to join any matches and get their % to 4% or less. Their only option would be to create a new account. And anyone wanting to abuse the...

I didn't bother looking too closely at other matches because no on had asked. I allowed Munbehend to move on to round two for several reasons, but the main ones are that one of the players in his match didn't play anywhere near their full potential against the match winner, and he's been a finalist in the tournament for several years in a row and normally received a bye into ...

Just now seeing this post. The system doesn't automatically recognize the 50 move rule, you'd have to ask for it by posting the forum or by e-mail. There's a fine line between abandoning a game (or making your opponent think you have) and strategic use of the clock. Re: Those who purposely time out....when losing.

The 10 move rule is just here. It's needed because of the large number of people who start games, make a couple of moves and never return to the site. There is a similar rule in the USCF. If a player doesn't make a move in a game at all, then the game won't be rated at all, but it will still count a...

... I was unaware that those who time out after making more than 10 moves would suffer a loss in rating and the other player would gain points. A timeout always counts as a loss, even under 10 moves. Knightmare, I'm almost tempted to say that's a valid interpretation of the rules. I'll agree the rules here are ambiguous in many instances, but they are also frequently ambiguous in OTB matches played under USCF or FIDE rules. For example, how do you know a player has been gone for 15 minutes? What...
