I have done many research and heard many stories, it really makes you think about life, and reality, I heard from many people they had all sorts of depressions: one of them even took an overdose of sleeping tablets, another one's mother hung herself up (I won't get into details). Your story isn't o...

Katchum - Being a music teacher myself (I teach band to 5th-12th graders in a small Minnesota town), I have some life experience in this dilemma of yours. I am not saying that I am an expert or anything. I just have some common ground in the musical world with you. And perhaps the job world..... I k...

I got some great shots to show how much shoveling we Canadians must do.
I am quite sure that you DO have more snow than I do. But the only snow Jeff will see has food coloring and is sold in a cafeteria!

Greg - Helping with the changeover process
Greg - I noticed a couple of things that need to be changed over yet for the domain change. 1. Change the home page <title> tags to say "Welcome to SlowChess.com". 2. Email notification - For move notifications, start of match notifications, end of game notifications, and 5 day warning notifications...

Changing to slowchess.com
Greg - I am sure that the hyphen in the net-chess.com url must have been a pain for you, but I for one don't see that it is necessary to make a change. The hyphen makes the name easier to read. I imagine that you probably have had enough complaints over the years from people to warrant the move, but...

My son was also 5 when I taught him how to play. He loves playing, too, but does not sound like he has the skill of your son. JB (his initials) is 7 now, and still likes to trade his knights for a pawn (and other poor trades, too). I would definitely keep it simple. Focus on one concept for several ...

Re: appologies to Greg & an explanation
This will be my last post on this site. My decision to leave the site was based on Greg's referral to a psychic hotline. I was simply stating a fact. My reaction was perhaps a bit immature itself. As to my retractors, I would recommend referring to my first 71 games and not my current w/l/d ratio a...

Hi - This is not chess-related, but music related. I am a school band teacher. I am running a trivia contest for my band students, mainly to encourage my students and their parents to sign up for my band email newsletter. I have set up an autoresponder at my school's band website to help run the con...

Rating Ceiling
Greg - I realize that this will probably stir the pot a little, but...... I totally agree with the rating ceiling concept. However, I really think that new players should automatically begin at a set "initial rating" (the number itself is not important to my point here). Only those people who can "p...

Ok, here comes another sermon, so bear with me.....
