Posting Matches
I am repeatedly told I made a Syntax error...
I don't understand what the software wants from me.
I posted:
1. e4 e5 2. d4 exd4 and it was rejected.
I closed the space between number and move:
1.e4 e5 2.d4 ~rejected.
What does the system want from me?
I haven't had this problem in the past.

Matches posted by "system"
Who is system? THIS system...net-chess? Joined 1999; last logged in 2001. Has posted many matches in the last few months; people always sign up; nothing ever happens. Not one game to his credit. Matches disappear off the board before the required number of people sign up. Can anyone explain why this...

Re: What have happen with Net-Chess?
Three observations: 1-Maybe a lot of players here don't even bother to look into the forum. Many of them are taciturn, don't respond to greetings, and obviously take it very badly when losing. 2-Lifeless, it is. I posted 2 questions about some variations, asking for some help from some stronger play...

Re: Timing out
I was unclear--by "can't bring themselves to resign" I was referring only to those who time-out. As for the time-outs, there is no doubt in my mind: apart from some who may have personal situations preventing them from continuing with the game, I am convinced their problem is psychological-- they ca...

Re: Timing out
Greg Miller is not interested--I know from experience. But I can't say I blame him. He can do nothing about the psycho-pathology of Chess-players. Chess brings out petty neurotic behavior in some people. It is clear that playing on this site are a number of people who just cannot bring themselves to...

Re: USCF NM James Schroeder from Cleveland, Ohio
Hi Cliff, JS published a little Bulletin with games, musings, advice, 4 to 6 times a year. I myself thought it quite instructive, and indeed fascinating. Harry Lyman, mentor of the Boylston Chess Club (and uncle of Shelby Lyman) thought so too. You can find some of H Lyman's games at chessgames.com-...

Quotes--a copy-and-paste job from a source I found
"Half the variations which are calculated in a tournament game turn out to be completely superfluous. Unfortunately, no one knows in advance which half." Jan Timman "What distinguishes a Grandmaster from a master? Chess-lovers often ask questions like that. To many people it seems that Grandmasters ...

USCF NM James Schroeder from Cleveland, Ohio
I never met him nor do I know anything about him. He self-published a little Chess Bulletin that the Boylston Chess Club of Boston, MA subscribed to. Harry Lyman had me look at it and thought JS's ideas were very interesting. I learned from it, and also about other ideas not having to do with Chess....
