Network Neutrality
I realize that we're supposed to try to keep politics out of the forums, but it is my understanding that a political development in the U.S. could potentially affect slowchess and other free US-based internet sites.

New Ladders Site
As some of you are already aware, I have moved the ladders to a new website . There are a few changes worth noting: The site is now automated. There is no longer any need to contact me for permission to challenge or to submit a match id. I have created a user account for players who were already on ...

Team Playoffs
One thing that has never come up before (and was not previously addressed) is the issue of a tiebreak system for playoffs in the chess-teams competition. As most of the rules for chess-teams have been decided upon by vote, I'd like to see what the general feeling is on this matter. Some of the optio...

The decision had originally been made by some combination of hamot, rmorton, and me. My reasoning, at least, was that a decision on which of two teams should proceed boils down to which team fared better in head-to-head competition. That being said, I understand your viewpoint as well...the importan...

Tiebreakers
"The standings in each division or group will be decided by team score. In the event of a tie, the head to head will be the tiebreaker; if they drew, then the second tiebreaker will be total Match points. In the event that even these are tied, the team with the lower (preseason) average rating will ...

Inactivity on ladders
alchab has opened an interesting poll on this subject which I'd like to discuss: http://www.slowchess.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=722 Here are my initial thoughts: I had been removing players who had been inactive at net-chess for a year, but it's been some time since I cleared out those records. Your rating will change after any completed game, unless: a)your opponent times out in under ten moves; b)you lose to a much higher ranked opponent (300 points I think); c)you win against a much lower rated opponent; or d)you draw against an opponent whose rating is very close to yours. Your 21st co...

I overlooked Qg3's defense of h2. In light of that, 3...Ngf3+ is a better continuation since 5.Qg3 regains a knight in the 3.Be3 line.
