Greg, since the 2004 Site Championship Tourney will probably not
finish until the end of this month,is there any thought of having a
2005 Tourney or will we skip 2005 and go right to the 2006 one?
Best regards

Lol! but,if I hadn't,I wouldn't have felt I'd been unfairly treated in my group's composition. Greg,as I indicated in my last post here, I found the logic of your explanation too solid to be flawed...especially the part about the eventual winner needing to be able to overcome all of the competition ...

Jonas, absolutely brilliant and so far beyond me that it's staggering!!!Trapping the black king on the h-file by sacrificing material was probably the only continuation I didn't consider and yet it's such a thing of beauty as it unfolds. Did this occur in an actual game or was it conceived in a ches...

I think your question was worthy of discussion and I didn't interpret your purpose to be that of trying to milk rating points. I play chess to win and absolutely hate losing. Well...to offer a draw in that circumstance might seem to you to be a risk-free gambit. Unfortunately,I believe you'll find that in practice it doesn't work out that way because 1) your opponent is already well aware of his advantage and will reject your offer....or 2) he's oblivious to it,accepts y...

Greg, I must respectfully disagree with much of your premise. Any player who would artificially seek to inflate their rating would have already done so and would require no further encouragement. The points that the winners scored in their 1st round matches were in most instances merely a reflection...

Thanks,Angel At first blush it seemed to me that my group(match 2) was disproportionately strong. Now that you lay it all out,I find that my impression was correct. teaching chess to a 5 year-old
Hi Jonathan,
I'd recommend you contact Tim(hamot) and/or Mark(cornstalk).
Not sure that Mark teaches students quite that young but I know
that Tim in the last year or so was conducting chess classes for
interested 2nd and 3rd graders(or thereabouts).
Good luck and best regards,
David

Re: ratings here totally suck
The ratings here totally suck, but not because defeating a lower-rated opponent (losing to higher-rated opponent) can make your rating fall (rise) when you are provisional. That can happen in USCF too. I don't fully understand what Greg is doing here, but after I left the site in, oh, the year 2000...

I can't agree that in Cornstalk's story there could be any question about Black circling "Black Won" only after White had signed. The purpose of signing the scoresheet is to attest to the result. Declining a challenge requires literally no effort.
Do not respond to it at all and it will disappear in a week or so.
Your rating will remain unaffected.
