Hello Sergio, Welcome to SlowChess. I saw you already had a provisional rating of 2500, after 6 wins and 3 draws. If you search for qualified opponents, you can limit your posted games to the minimum rating you want to play against. Better is to play against a small group of people, without any rati...

puzzles with both white or black to move exist.

And only a tiny fraction of those exist where both white and black can win if it's their move.

Hello Greg,

I was wondering though, have you changed the way a search on moves is done?
It's been a month since last time I used the archive search, but I thought I could search on "1.e4 e5" (a string) instead of just "#" of moves?

I notice I made a mistake with Qh2+. It's an immediate win for white as well.

After 36...Qxg5, Qxg5, Rxd3, Qxe7, Rf8 (avoiding promotion) white has to protect b1 with the Queen, leaving black with two rooks and some extra pawns to maneuver.

Black wasn't intend on exchanging or giving up the Queen.
Move 35...Qh2+ not a cloud in the sky to worry about.
Move 36...Qxg5, 37.Qxg5 would have been a winning game for black still.
Move 38...Nxh3? still got a fair chance
Move 39...Kg8 hmmm, at least better then Bf6.

Try writing a song and piano play of your own.
Make a choice based on that.

Though an engineer being nicknamed "the piano player" is something worth thinking about.

It would have been nicer if it was black to move, so first:
1. Kd5 Kc8 2.Kd4 Kc7 3.Kc5
Showing the position above but now with black to move and loose.

continuing
4.Kb6 ... 5.Kxa6 ... 6.Kb5 etc.

Black actualy looses the knight if black follows this line:

1... Nf3+ 2.Kf2! Nxe1 3.exd6 Nxc2 4.dxc7 and blacks knight is trapped.
White can now play Rd2 or pin the knight after Nxb4
(the knight cannot be protected by playing either a5 or c5)
So, black looses a Knight for 2 pawns.

1. White mates in 4.
1.Rxh6+ Kxh6 2.Qg5+ Kh7 3.Qh4+ Nh5 4.Qxh5#

2. If white tries to advance to mate with 1.Qh4, Black will win after Nh5!!
This opens the g-file and gains the much needed tempo, which black
wouldn't get after the checks in the first line.

Qf5 is indeed important to play.

White has the move Re6! blocking the black Queens entrance.
Black would make it worse by letting white also play Qxg4+.

Re6 is actualy better to play then h2-h4. but in this position, maybe black might have played gxh4.

If your timeout record is a problem, I let the color you don't want to play time out.

As long as a game is under 10 moves and flagged as time out, it doesn't count towards your rating.

I couldn't find any other way to preselect a wanted color.
