Be careful with your furry friends in the heat.

Rosie is the Golden Retriever in the photo below. We took all three dogs for a walk Saturday. It was hot and humid, and less than a half mile in we decided to turn around and go back since the dogs seemed to be getting worn out faster than usual. By the time my girlfriend got Rosie home, she was com...

It scales to the width of the screen, but not the height yet, so you might have to make the window smaller.

I've seen this abused quite a bit on FICS. People use it to abort games when they don't like the opening move, or as an alternate method of filtering players by rating when there's already a method to do that.

It's your entire rating history. If you were rated 1000 and won a game against a 1400 player, and years later were rated 2000 and lost against a 2400 player, those two scores are averaged together for the +400 point on the graph.

Been thinking of some ways to penalize this differently. And/or flagging a user as abandoning a game, so they have to always move in the...

Re: Playing Against Our Net-Chess Server Engine ?

It'll never recognize the three move repetition rule since the engine doesn't know the history of the game beyond the current position. Every time you move it just loads the position with your move and begins analyzing it. But you know you got a draw. Promotion should work, I'll have to look into it...

Of the about 1000 users who've logged in in the past 30 days, only 19 of them have ratings within 25 points of their rating floor. No doubt that it does account for some rating inflation, but the overall factor is people starting games then leaving the site. Disabling the rating floor probably would...

The rating floor is turned off for new users by default, only users from many, many years ago had it default to on. I was going to get rid of it completely but a lot of people complained. But that's not what's responsible for the higher than average ratings for players here, it's people who start ga...

Technically, nothing should be called automatically, you have to ask the TD (me) to declare it a draw. I only implemented automatic judgement for the few things that happen fairly regularly, checkmate, time-outs, stalemate, three move repetition. So far I don't think anyone has had to ask me to forc...

It uses the Elo system which is pretty much the same used everywhere else. The provisional rating period (up until your 20th game) is based on the average of rating of all of your opponents, and your winning percentage. E.g. If you draw against a 1500 player, your rating will be 1500, if you beat or...

Depends on what you mean by "not being able to handle them". It might find a mate in three or four and stop looking, but it should still find a mate. But it's not uncommon for an engine to stop searching when it finds any forced mate, not necessarily the one in the least number of moves.
