net-chess blocked
Well the new content tracking software at work has finally blocked net-chess. Funny thing is it blocked it as a criminal hacking site. Good thing is if you type in www.slowchess.com in the address bar you get right in. Hack the world.

I have often wondered why there is no inactive list for this site. There are users out there that have not logged on since 2001. If they ever log back on it would seem to be easy to make them active again. We just did a clean up on our equipment and parts data base for items not ordered in 2 years. ...

Hey Zapper I am using SCID. After getting all my games on screen I used edit to select all. Then pasted it to notepad. In notepad I got rid of all the timeout games to opp. resigned and saved the whole as a .pgn file and SCID has a program to convert that file to one it can use. Seems to work well. ...

Thanks for the correction
I was in 6th grade when I last read the rules. Was the part about check ever in the rule? Or was I misinformed by some of the people teaching me to play and just added their mistake into the rule?

Re: 50 move rule
Yes there is a rule. I think it states a draw can be claimed when 50 moves (I think they mean move pairs) have been made without a pawn move, capture, or check being given. It may have changed since I last read the USCF rules.winston wrote:Has anyone ever heard of a 50 move rule? What exactly is it?

Zapper you jumped to a wrong conclusion
Nothing was said about the ratings on this site. I used my information as an example because this site has the same information I need to work with except it deals with chess. We are trying to work up approximate ratings for our table tennis club. We have two players who are rated ( I did not know t...

Oppenents average rating and game record
Is there a simple way to determine from the your oppenents average rating and your game record (win/lose/draw percentages) a rating in line with those percentages from the ELO formulas? I tried to work it out for myself and got 2 different results 1815 and 1835. I used my stats in user info for this...

Are there other variations of chess they play online? I am talking about variations based on chess as we play here. Although I would not mind finding a go Shogi site or site were they play the Korean form of chess.

Sometimes when I log in to the forum I will be shown as logged in but the log out button at top still says log in. Also it shows all posts as read when some should be unread. This is my main problem. Although to log off I must log in a second time. This happens 100% of time from work. So I stopped f...

Being able to post notes to a game when it is not your move would be nice. I add notes sometimes on my move, but mostly write down notes when I get a chance to look the games over.

Instead of saying black played h6 just show the board the way it will be for white's move. Then ask how white should continue.

The proof?
arlocw why not post some of these games in "Puzzles and Game Commentary" (leaving out names of course) at the point you feel cheating happened and then allow others to comment on the games for a few days. Then you can present your analysis that proves a computer was used.

Is this right?
I just want to know if I have this correct. The game should be a draw if played out with correct play. If white times out it is a draw, lack of mating potential. If black times out white wins because he has the potential of being able to mate black. That would take a major mistake from black of cour...

I once played paintball every weekend and thought why not put on TV. Then I saw how they tried to do it here in the US and it was bad, very bad. I like the layout better. I still had trouble with the rooks on the darker squares. Guess that is why I always use white or cream for light squares and a light green for the dark squares where possible.

The boards are great. The only problem I have is the color contrast. The white rooks seem to fade into the board, bishops also just not as bad. The board is the problem IMO.

Match of 10 players/ 8 positions open/ 2 positions challenged players. Is it possible to set up a match like this? I realize that such a match would never start if the challenged players do not join and see that as a problem against this type match. Still can it be done?
