net-chess blocked

Well the new content tracking software at work has finally blocked net-chess. Funny thing is it blocked it as a criminal hacking site. Good thing is if you type in www.slowchess.com in the address bar you get right in. Hack the world.

Okay 1 Nxg6. Then follow up with 2 Bxf7. That should win a rook and pawn for a knight.

For 29a 1...NxP you at least get something and save the rook and queen for now.
29b I like better. 1BxP if 1...Kh8 2BxR; if 1...Kf8 2Ne6+; if 1...QxB 2QxQ KxQ 3 Nd5 dis ch allowing a knight fork. :)

It may be the time and date in system BIOS is not correct. If it is wrong set right and watch it for a while. If it changes month and year the battery on the system board may be dead. On most it is a common watch battery and easy to replace.

I have often wondered why there is no inactive list for this site. There are users out there that have not logged on since 2001. If they ever log back on it would seem to be easy to make them active again. We just did a clean up on our equipment and parts data base for items not ordered in 2 years. ...

Hey Zapper I am using SCID. After getting all my games on screen I used edit to select all. Then pasted it to notepad. In notepad I got rid of all the timeout games to opp. resigned and saved the whole as a .pgn file and SCID has a program to convert that file to one it can use. Seems to work well. ...

Thanks for the correction

I was in 6th grade when I last read the rules. Was the part about check ever in the rule? Or was I misinformed by some of the people teaching me to play and just added their mistake into the rule?

Re: 50 move rule

winston wrote:Has anyone ever heard of a 50 move rule? What exactly is it?
Yes there is a rule. I think it states a draw can be claimed when 50 moves (I think they mean move pairs) have been made without a pawn move, capture, or check being given. It may have changed since I last read the USCF rules.

You must not have seen the replies to your post about ratings. Your rating does not change till you complete 8 games. Your rating is provisional till you complete 20 games. I haven't change my profile in a while for the board or the chess site; last I did they worked fine.

Oppenents average rating and game record

Is there a simple way to determine from the your oppenents average rating and your game record (win/lose/draw percentages) a rating in line with those percentages from the ELO formulas? I thought your rating started showing up after 8 games, just unstable till you hit the 20 game mark. At 20 games you are no longer provisional. I don't know about the 1500 new player rating, there was a match request from a new user over the weekend who was rated 2000.
