It uses the GNU chess engine, I'm sure someone somewhere has guestemated the ratings for it at different speeds. The server IIRC is a 2.5Ghz Pentium 4, so you'll need the rating for a computer that speed. Here's a link to the FAQ for GNU Chess: http://www.gnu.org/software/chess/chess_faq.html#[B.2] ...

Wouldn't that be nice! Actually, it's copyrighted for 60 years after the author dies, unless stated otherwise. So if the author dies, you can't even get permission to reprint the work unless you can track down a heir who probably doesn't even know they have the rights to the work.

Possitions on the board, and lists of moves cannont be copyrighted, any annotation is copyrighted unless specified otherwise.

I'd think the fact that the author of the book regurgetated the possitions kinda speaks for itself.

There's a big difference between being behind, and being in a lost possition. In the two games you pointed out toverturf, it could simply be the fact he has to think about it longer. In the one you pointed out masterubu, There's only 24 days left, so I'll let him time out, but I added time for white...

I tried the "Everyone starts at 1500" and almost no one ever e-mailed me to have their rating set to their "real" rating. So we had 2100 and 800 players playing at 1500. Maximum rating of 3000 instantiated.

In order to bring/keep the ratings here at an anywhere near reasonable level, I've instantiated a maximum rating of 3000. Those who were above 3000 have had their ratings dropped to 3000, which only affected (at most) five legitimate players, and not much at that. A list of the ratings before the mo...

Due to the number of obscenely high ratings (even those obtained legitimately), I'm thinking of making an absolute maximum rating. Say 2700, 2500? So no one's rating will ever go above that.
