Match requiring a minimum rating
I posted a 2-person match a couple of days ago. I required a minimum rating of 2600. Someone signed up for it who has a rating below 2600. (Is that supposed to happen?) Further, this someone is playing something like 262 games at once. He has a default rate of about 31%. He signed up for one of my m...

Playing Chess by burning-out your eyeballs looking at a computer screen is not the proper way.
Set up the position on a real chessboard, in order to study the position.
This allows for analysis and fewer mistakes.

Having an "Abort" feature
When I went to investigate 2 other sites, chess.com and chess24.com, I discovered they incorporate this feature. Namely: if you do not want to play with the person you are matched up with, for whatever reason: too weak, too strong, you've played that person before and didn't like his/her attitude, y...

chess.com has a lot of good stuff. I played a little, there, for a while, and was willing to pay $7.99 a month at a time, for 2 or 3 months, in order to look at their instruction videos. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton walk in to a bar. Donald leans over, and with a smile on his face, says, “The media is really tearing you apart for that Scandal.” Hillary: “You mean my lying about Benghazi?” Trump: “No, the other one.” Hillary: “You mean the massive voter fraud?” Trump: “No, the ot...

The solution is very simple: 1) Always check out the profile. I discovered that many people don't, and some don't even know how. 2) Never sign up for a match with a new player, whether 1-on-1 or including others whom you know. 3) Never play 30+2 matches unless you REALLY need the time. 4) Best: neve...

I agree with you Greg. I never did sign on for anything with ICCF, both because of the long time controls and also because my contact told me there was a certain drop-out rate. You put in a lot of time on a game and it ends up being wasted. What I like about net-chess is you can set your own time co...

I investigated ICC. Someone got back to me, gave me the low-down, was very friendly and helpful. There are several types of matches; long time controls. It is for players who take their CC seriously. My understanding is:
Assuming everything else on the board is equal:
-Rook and Pawn for 2 pieces is equal
-2 pieces are better than a Rook
-2 Rooks are better than a Queen
-if you gain a Pawn, you're ahead.

Three observations: 1-Maybe a lot of players here don't even bother to look into the forum. Many of them are taciturn, don't respond to greetings, and obviously take it very badly when losing. 2-Lifeless, it is. Hi Cliff, JS published a little Bulletin with games, musings, advice, 4 to 6 times a year. I myself thought it quite instructive, and indeed fascinating.
