If I'm not mistaken, langelli's accusation of unsportsmanlike behavior is against me. In my defense, I was off on a trip and had no access to the internet for 4-5 days. Admittedly, I should have resigned earlier but given that I didn't slow down my rate of play even in a losing position (until my tr...

As far as I understand it, if one side hasn't made a move in a game for 5 days, they get an email warning them that they haven't moved in a while. If you haven't made a move for 10 days, you get 2 such emails.

That column should list the last time the email was sent to the player whose move it is.

Chess book

Try http://www.amazon.com/Thousand-Winning-Chess-Sacrifices-Combinations/dp/0879801115 This has tactical puzzles from the most basic to much more advanced ones and will probably be the place to start. It might not be ideal for elementary school but you can have a look and make a more appropriate call.

Sometimes, you want to vary openings or get a quick idea of what your opponent played the last time you played them - so it might be useful to have this link rather than go search through your entire game h...

Look who's talking!

You are the second highest rated player in the match, at 2527!

I am the one who am really going to struggle here, especially coz I am playing other games where I'm close to resigning and therefore heading further down the rating list!

If you understand the reasons for the moves in a specific variation, you can certainly attempt to deal with the non-standard moves. But the biggest advantage that a regular player has over a part-time one is in the end-game. The part-timer isn't aware of simple drawing tactics and ends up losing gam...
