Thank you, but
Dragondude, thank you very much for the explanation. It was clear and concise. I have resigned one of the games in question and found a possible way of recovering in the other. However, I don't care for the interface here, and I'm going to wrap up my current games and go back to Chessworld. That sit...

Two problems
I don't think threefingers should feel under any obligation to resign. Also, the other game where I had the same problem certainly does not call for a resignation by my opponent, who is very much in the game even if I play the best move.

In game 1104619620 I did more or less the same thing. I experimented with the move pxp, saw that it lost to NxR, and in my mind if not in the computer circuits, reset the board. I clicked my rook on my second rank and then his rook and then hit confirm. The server registered my original move. The on...

Game 110425854
In the above referenced game, my last move, Qxp+, was the result of improper manipulation of the site. I did make the above move and its logical response, KxQ. Then I rejected it. When I finally decided on a move, it was Q-h3+, which forces K-g8 and allows Q-h8 ++. My last four actions were to resto...

It seems that I missed a nice feature of the boards we have. I assumed that I could move only my pieces and only when it was my turn. That's because that is the way it is on Chessworld.net. I just played with the feature, and it's very nice. I do wonder what happens if I hit "Enter" while I am playi...

I sent an email to the address he provides on the site and have not heard from him. Perhaps you can answer my questions.
1. If I recall correctly, he provides a database of games. Can that database be loaded into Chess Assistant?
2. Can Chess Assistant databases be loaded into SCID?

Time Out Problem
I fully agree that the time out problem here is no worse than on other sites. This is the only site I know of where anything is done about the problem. Greg will take away some of the time of someone who seems to not be moving or resigning in a clearly lost game. More players should complain so that...

I was not aware of this site when I checked with my local library but the two sites I did check were both blocked by the software. Analysis Board
I suggest that the site provide us with an "Analysis Board" for each game. The "Analysis Board" would start with the current game position but I would be able to move the pieces around as if I had a small magnetic set. Note that "real" correspondence players use pocket or perhaps full size sets to a...

The policy is certainly clear, but it is one of the few things I dislike about the site. One can avoid your predicament by using generous time limits. I personally don't play here faster than 20 + 2. It is possible for a correspondence Chess site to allow players to change their handles. A paid site on which I play will be happy to let you change your handle as often as you like. I don't see why discussing the rating system cannot be fun, but if anyone does not like doing so, they should at the very least not interfere with those of us who do. I have heard that there are even people who do not play chess seriously.

Question and Comment
Cornstalk has a good point when he points out that the minor complaint with which I began this thread can happen in USCF Chess too. I am hearing Cornstalk say that it takes more games to raise your rating 100 points than it does under the USCF rating system. I would like to know whether that's true....

That was a good explanation Greg. Thank you. I persist in my belief that changes in my opponent's rating that occur while my game with him is going on should not be allowed to hurt my rating. I think the TD made the wrong decision in Cornstalk's tale. How did White, or anyone except Black, know that "Black Won" was circled before White signed? Cornstalk gave me food for reflection. His piece is well thought out and well written, but I must still disagree. Certainly, without rules, everything is chaos. However, I thought that in Chess, and particullarly under FIDE and ICCF rules, we had people called Arbiters who would enforce upon competi...

Greg, I think that if the logs back up what awacs claims at the beginning of this thread, you should take one of the actions he requests. One player violated ettiquette by repeated draw offers. When a game times out, what happens? In particular, do I have to do anything to claim the win, and do I have the option of granting my opponent more time? This question is for those of you who play in OTB Chess Tournaments.
