Thematic Match

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a thematic match with the following opening:

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.0-0 b5 6.Bb3 Bb7

It is the Ruy Lopez, Archangel Variation. Drop a reply if you're in the mood.

Best Game of the First 5 Rounds?

Well there's only been one decisive game, but plenty have been exciting about some of these draws. Now you decide which gets the "Slowchess.Com Brilliancy Prize". From Round 1 - SHIROV, Alexei vs. KASPAROV, Garry [Event "21st Linares"] [Site "Linares ESP"] [Date "2004.19.02"] [Round "1"] [Result "1/...

How would you pick teams? Would there be rules against super teams? (ie a team w/ an average rating of 2800) But I definitely like the idea!

Some good chess sites are www.chessgames.com (HUGE database of games, 10,000+ I believe ) with lots of kibitzing. Also www.chessville.com is interesting with articles and a few annotated games.

Slowchess.com is a good name, that's what Correspondence chess is. Besides net-chess might work the opposite way, tbear, bringing players who want bullet and blitz chess, stuff their obviously not going to get here =D.

You are correct with that move. Black now needs careful defending to extend the mate to 6 and ply with White threatening mate two ways.

:shock:WARNING! POSSIBLE SOLUTION BELOW!

I do believe the solution is...

1. g3 Qh3
2. Bg4!! Qxg4
3.Nf6+ Kg6 (or Kh8)
4. Nxg4

This wins the Queen for a bishop and diffuses any immediate mate threats from Black. Any comments?

Mate in 6 and ply

For those wondering ply means "half-move". In this position here White seems to be losing horribly, down a Rook, two Knights and four pawns, but he has a great sequence of moves that can bring him the full point. Can you find White's mate in 6 and ply? http://net-chess.com/images/lwsq.jpg http://net...
