If a player use a chessprogram to find the moves, we are really playing against that programs chessengine. The player who cheats is really just making the moves for the program. I really don't see how that can be any fun... We who play against the chessengine, we get a good opponent, as his rating a...

I would also like to say thanks to gmiller and the users on this site, and hope for a happy new year for everyone! I do use this site a lot, and I could contribute something, not much, i am a poor student, but a few dollars I can give. Problem is how do I do that from Norway? Don't have a creditcard...

Of course he is upset, arlocw is accusing people on this site of cheating. I consider myself to be a polite chessplayer. But I have two games against arlocw, 1 loss and 1 win. And since he will not say who is cheating and who is not, he is accusing me also. That is why I write this. He says he is ra...

It was fascinating to see how Kasparov fooled Fritzs algorithms. He just set up a position where Fritz responses with....doing nothing! And the GK just moves some pieces here and there, and suddenly he has the passed pawn and now Fritz realizes that he is in trouble, too late... I got inspired and p...

You know, I see the argument that some players may timeout beacause they don't have the possibility to make moves. And then the ratingfloor does a job. But I myself, I make lots of moves everyday, and timeouts is not a problem. And I have no interest in having a high number indicating a playingstren...

I enjoyed the game very much. Don't have espn, so I followed the board on x3d homepage and listened to live audio comments from www.chess.fm (it's a great site, check it out). If you don't have access to ESPN (where I hear you can also see the world series of poker, sad we can't get espn in Norway  ), another option is chess.fm live audio comments (at www.chess.fm). The board you can watch on ICS (log in as 'guest' if not member), or at http://x3dchess.com/index.html...

In the diagram above you would be in trouble if black knew about the trap. He would just take your knight on e5, with his own knight, instead of capturing your queen. But if you first moved h3 threatning his bishop, and he then moved it back to h5, then it would be OK to try. Because then you could ...

I agree that having a rating indicating a higher playingstrength than you really have, can not give the same satisfaction as rising based on improving your play. But problem is when you play against those people. Then you too will get a higher rating than you deserve. In time all players on the site...
